transparent custom shells already exist. the problem is, that transparent plastics tend to be more brittle than solid colors
Ive done a shell swap on my steam deck and while Its worth it and it looks amazing it was a PROCESS because you have to unglue the screen and the touch pads (if you want to swap those too) you basically disassemble the entire device
Yeah, I'd love to do it myself, but once I saw that you have to unglue the screen I decided that I have enough projects going on right now. lol
Did this too. Can confirm, it was quite the process.
Yup. Was SUPER tedious and time consuming. Worth it tho.
There's actually an official transparent case Steam Deck too. They had the limited edition OLED when it first came out.
Fuck, I just bought my OLED model a week ago.
The white looks, cool but I think it will look dirty a bit faster. Also, the white boarder may be a bit distracting
I always prefer the dark colors around screens.
Yeah - my first thought was literally "that will look dirty quick"
It'll be yellow in few months.
I doubt that to be honest. White plastic got better since the 90s
Unless it can repel Cheeto dust that thing is changing colours.
real men eat blue takis. ๐ง๐คซ
You can still shell swap or vinyl wrap your OLED, replace joysticks and buttons, etc. It's cooler to customize it in that way imo
The notion of getting a special edition white one, then swapping the shell to a custom black is funny.
Idk where you live, but a number of countries give you a 14 day cool-off period where you can return purchases for any reason.
Eternally thankful this isn't a rerun of the translucent black edition. I too got my first OLED delivered last week.
white plastics have a history of becomig yellow
It's called a patina, and it's an intended side-effect of repeated use that increases performance.
ah, just like how cam out is a feature of phillips screws that improves the spinning performance of the driver
Ngl a 90s PC beige steam deck would be amazing to run emudeck on
That might be an appealing retro aesthetic to have!
Ngl I was convinced for a good while it's mostly a result of smoking near them.
I mean that will do it too, but it will be sticky and stain your skin and also smell awful
As sexy as it looks I feel it might look dirty fast.
Man, I couldn't get one over the fear of it getting yellowed but it looks cleannn, love the grey buttons
If you already own a steamdeck they sell replacement shells. Be forewarned though installation is absolutely insane and takes a loooot of time. I've had white installed on mine for about a year and have had no issues with it yellowing.
The back half of the shell is easy though, I swapped mine with a transluscent purple backplate a few months back. ^_^
I thought this wasn't really a thing anymore with modern white plastic, no? It'll still get more visibly dirty though.
Finally a good solution to my white sd-card. It looks so bad in my black Steam Deck.
I solved this issue with the magic of a black whiteboard marker.
I tried this but even permanent marker kept rubbing off
White out marker the Steam Deck?
This is genius
I barely notice it.
The SD card slot is pointing down when I use it.
I also have a case which makes it even harder to see.
I owned a white original model PSP and that thing never looked clean after the first week no matter what I did.
Honestly people who go all white on everything kinda terrify me...
