It'd be great if this was reported on while it was happening, instead of being sat on to get a juicy book deal.

A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Out of all the BS about this orange baby flooding our collective intakes every single second of every single day, this bit of "light treason" coming to light earlier might not have been as impactful as it could be when the election draws nigh.
Hopefully the Harris campaign seizes on this and beats him like a pinata with it for the next month. American Presidents should not provide aid and succor to their geopolitical enemies.
It's grifters all the way down.
"don't tell anyone, they'll get mad at you not me."
No, I'm pretty sure we're all just pissed at both of them equally. All the time. For all reasons. This included.
It’s not just Trump, we need to get rid of a lot of these rich people. The shit they do that we only find out in books and articles should stop. We are too big a population to have to deal with this fuckery.
Holy shit that’s wild. Just when I think I can’t be surprised by Donald anymore, boom! Woodward does his thing.
As talented as Woodward is, I really dislike that we only find out about these travesties years after the fact, when it’s all but too late to do anything about it. I understand that that’s how he is able to get access to these stories in the first place, but it feels really icky to me.
when it’s all but too late to do anything about it
I'm not sure about that. 1 month before the election might be the best time to publish a list of damning facts.
Vote.
“I don’t want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me,” Putin was quoted as saying to Trump at the time.
That's how you know Putin controls Trump. He didn't tell anyone- for a while, anyway. Somehow Bob Woodward is politician kryptonite.
I think it's Woodward's brand. Trump respects some brands even at his own detriment.
This could have used more context. At the time Trump said covid wasn't a problem. He said it would blow over. Yet he is sending off tests to protect Putin from this non-issue.
As if a former KGB officer is sticking an American swab up their nose.
It seems far more likely to me that Putin requested them. There was a brief period where America had a monopoly on anti-COVID medical tech.
The story as reported isn't clear on whose idea it was. For Trump to spontaneously have a brainstorm to help another human being, even if it's Putin, doesn't really check out for me.
Yeah, they went straight in the trash.
Putin, being a clever person, knows that value of the act though.
Putin, being a clever person, used his own swab for the test.
The qtip was not the revolutionary part of the covid test.
I know that, you know that, Putin knows that... do we think trump knew that ;-)
What are you talking about? What is "that"?
The qtip was not the revolutionary part of the covid test.
the cotton on the end of a stick is not the most important part of a covid test.
You could... use a different swab.
Exactly. Like he couldn't have gone straight to the local factory and grabbed some if he really couldn't get any, or straight to the airplane as it arrived with tests.
It's possible Putin asked for them as a little loyalty test, and a story to have in his back pocket.
Putin's Sock Puppet should have sent his COVID remedy. Fish tank cleaner, Clorox Bleach and a UV light for Vlad to shove down is damn gullet.
what are the differences between a rare covid test and an uncommon covid test?
Wait till you find out about the legendary covid test
Buy a few more gold boxes and who knows; maybe you'll be lucky!
It was rare because there was a shortage in the US around the time trump stole them from American citizens.
Trump and putin have also allegedly talked 7 times since he left office
Probably sent him a pair of his soiled tighty whities too.
