Seeing Windows on a Thinkpad feels weird. I better go back to Unixporn to feel better.

My thoughts exactly... Where are the tiling WMs?

As an i3 guy for over a decade, sell me on sway? Just out of curiosity.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

Sway is on wayland and wayland together with systemd is the best thing that ever happened to Linux.

/me throws a smoke bomb to the floor and runs away laughing.

i think the biggest argument against i3 is wayland. Past that i'm probably waiting for i3 2 electric boogaloo. It's such a good piece of software.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

is a 99% compatible replacement for i3, just using Wayland instead of xorg. this means better multimonitor and u get some extra frames meow ^w^

i dont think it runs well with a nvidia gpu tho, so just aheads up for that meow

As an Arch + Hyprland Thinkpad user seeing a beautiful Thinkpad being ruined by Windows hurts. Free them from their Microsoft prison already.

I don’t even use windows anymore apart from my work laptop, where I can’t install stuff on my own anyway, but that still made me look up options for tiling window managers on windows rn. (Tiling windows managers amiright)

Maybe it's my age, but I've only ever known IBMs as DOS and Windows machines.

[–] bitchkat 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They sold Thinkpad to Lenovo years and years ago.

[–] Psythik 2 points 2 months ago

I know, that's why I mentioned age.

What about hackintosh on a thinkpad?

[–] [email protected] 112 points 2 months ago (1 children)

thats a cool coverup/origin story for your thinkpad collection

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Yeah I don't expect there are many tech employees working with Windows Thinkpads.

[–] tabris 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I worked for one of the biggest tech companies in the UK, we used Thinkpads for our dev work. They're solid machines with good specs and excellent warranties. Big companies love them.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I've worked for tech companies in SV and I've never seen a developer without a MacBook.

[–] Shanedino 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah yes the only laptops/desktops that pit alien ware to shame for the price to performance ratio.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

I guess it doesn't matter if the company is buying them for you

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

The X1 Carbon is one of the best developer laptops there is, but I would never tarnish one with Windows

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

Mostly finance guys…

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

you would be surprised... i cannot use linux and have a thinkpad assigned. i need to change company...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

i work at a tech company and everyone here runs company mandated windows on their company thinkpads

Wheres the tiling WMs? Wheres the fastfetch? Wheres the cool looking rice? Wheres the programming socks? Wheres the obligatory Blåhaj?

[–] atocci 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's unethical to keep a ThinkPad in the conditions on display in the photo

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

All Thinkpads (even the lower quality and less upgradable newer ones) deserve a loving Linux Transfem :3

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Who says it needs to be a transfem, there are cool linux nerds of the transmasc and enby variety as well.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

“I’m looking for a man in finance”

[–] simplejack 18 points 2 months ago

I don’t see any MacBook Pros. I assume the tech guys work in SaaS.

[–] quinkin 17 points 2 months ago

Does that make you a laptoprostitute?

[–] recklessengagement 11 points 2 months ago

...hey wait a sec, I think I see my laptop in there!

[–] HowManyNimons 10 points 2 months ago
