The ragetacean era was so joyful and expressive. Now it's only sad wojak. I guess memes adapt to their environmental pressures, which says a lot about our inner selves too.

It's true. You just reminded me of a graphic I saved that sends me back to that era

I feel like there are a few anachronisms here, like the amogi. ATI stopped existing in 2006, among us released in 2018

I suspect that the mass extinction was caused by 4chans alt-right phase... And perhaps even earlier in the atheism+ and gamer gate periods.

The biodiversity of rage comics can't be replicated in a few gens, it takes time, this is only the start of the healing process.

Excellent presentation tho.

I love this meme, but how can you represent the rageface era without ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu?

F7 U13. There's too many Fs and Us in that one. It's close, but not the OG

I've realized that I miss the extants and feel like the internet is a less beautiful place without LOLOLOL face

Agreed, look at all the natural variation that was lost. The newcomers don't convey the same intensity of emotions.

P.S. "extant" means still in existence, I believe you meant "extinct" :)

Edit: I only now realize the image is also incorrectly labeled. It's a perfectly understandable mistake, anyway.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Agreed! I like what they contribute but their now extinct forebears just bring a lot more flavour - and lightheartedness, I think.

Hahaha this is what I get for not double checking a word I wasn't sure of. Thank you, correctly used this time around :)

We should not have gone further than rage comics

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Agreed! Also, chefs kiss on the username 👌

I miss the Me Gusta face and also the Dodo bird.

[–] Breadhax0r 5 points 10 months ago

I still use me gusta... though I'd be lying if a part of me didn't feel incredibly old using it, but a part of that might also stem from the fact that I work with 18-25 year Olds

Ah, meme memetics

[–] [email protected] 11 points 10 months ago

Dawkins was right.

I wonder whether evolutionary memetics will ever be a field of study. I guess know your meme and internet archives are all we have of a proto-discipline so far.

And here I am missing the "ORLY / YARLY" owls, Lolcats "in ur stuffs, doin teh things", and "advice animals" eras from approximately 2.8 billion years ago in Internet-scaled time lol.

...Also cereal guy was funny. :D
