To be fair, humans also regularly mess up this task. I’d be curious to see comparisons of error rates.
McDonald's did not factor in the same thing you are apparently not factoring in- when humans at McDonald's fuck up your order, you can tell them about it.
Does it really not acknowledge "you got that order wrong?"
In any sense that you think it knows you exist? No.
I might be misunderstanding your comment - I'm not asking about awareness, of any sort.
If I'm at McDonald's and I tell the llm "hey you got that last item wrong", does it really not do anything to correct the order? That would be a vast and surprising oversight.
