I was in 5th grade when my dad told me about the Nuremberg trials and the subsequent Milgram experiments.

Edit Wtf you sick perverts, I was talking about when your parents talk to you about authority bias and how you need to be suspicious of power structures that tell you to do things that you would normally consider horrible acts.

Jesus you can't talk about Nazis without someone dragging out Sex Ed these days smh

A college friend is being serial stalked and harassed, for several years now by an ex-roommate, and she is unable to get help. Yesterday after discovering a slew of hateful and threatening emails in her Spam dir, she called 911 (on my advice). They said they would be sending out officers and they never did.

This is obviously an abbreviated account, but this has been going on for years now, and since the presidential election this stalker as ratcheted up the harassment and the rhetoric.

She does not have many finacial means, is naturally timid, and has 4 adult children who are out of the house, but this criminal knows who they are and she fears direct action against this man.

I advised her to call 911, document EVERYTHING, and when it happens again, file another police report and keep doing so. In the past she tried to file on this man, and all they did was chase down an old address and then interviewed his sister, then squat. I also advised her to find a local advocacy/support group to speak with and get some support from.

This abuse takes place over email, text, and 1st person ( flattened tires, jammed keyways, etc etc). The abuser is a card carrying / tattooed Nazi, whom I suspect is on boards and forums learning how to cover his tracks, obfuscate sources etc.

What the fuck can ne done about this? I am not in tbe same region as she is BTW.

Thank you, seriously, deeply Thank You.

Columbus, Ohio, US

UPDATE: 15:03 EST: I have finally gotten through the broken Columbus, Ohio prosecutor's office phone tree to an advocate for the local DV/Stalking Unit and they are now speaking together.

Lads I am CHEESED to ask this question, what is your favourite kind of cheese?

My favourite all time is the classic cranberry Wensleydale. That shit is fruity, tangy and melts in your mouth.

I'm in the U.S. but interviewing for UK jobs since we're emigrating in January, which means all of my interviews are remote. I've only had a couple so far and only one has been via video, the other just phone, but I realized I don't actually know the protocol here.

I'm in a creative field in the U.S. and the advice I keep being given here is to just wear a shirt and tie to an interview and not a suit because (especially since I'm in my late 40s) it makes you look too old, out-of-touch and grim for a creative position. I actually started getting more work when I ditched the suit for interviews in the U.S., so apparently that was good advice.

But I have another UK interview tomorrow and I'm thinking that maybe they'll see that the opposite way- that if I don't wear a suit, I'm not serious about wanting the job.

So what's the protocol here? Any advice would be appreciated thanks.

Lets say you live in a world where the world government has decided people are getting too addicted to the internet and ordered the internet to be shut down for 5 years. The 100 GB of storage is all you have (excluding essential system files for your Operating System). You have 24 hours before the internet is getting shut down. What do you download?

Basically just what the title says, how well do they work together/interact with each other and how can it be improved?

I don't like microblog-style social media, but there are some people and/or organizations that I'd like to follow (for example, Nick from the Linux experiment). To my knowledge, I pretty much just have to keep mastodon around to see microblog content. I'd really rather just follow the few people I want to from here and otherwise maintain the current functionality of Lemmy.

One option could be to have a client that uses both platforms together, but I think that would just be clunky (like the title of this post, sorry about that). Another would be to add the ability to follow people into Lemmy, but I think that may mess up how Lemmy is intended to work. The last option I've been able to come up with is turning a mastodon user into a community, kind of like the reverse of what mastodon does to Lemmy communities.

I know a lot of people probably don't want microblog-style functionality on Lemmy (I'm one of them for the most part) but I think the entire concept of the fediverse is kind of a moot point if the various different platforms can't actually interact properly. Right now, it seems like mastodon is the only one that really talks to other platforms the way they're all supposed to. I'd really like to be able to access all of the fediverse's content from right here on Lemmy, because it is my favorite fediverse platform and part of the point of the fediverse is to only need one platform for all of the content.

Let me know what y'all think about the current state of interoperability between Lemmy and mastodon (or just fedi platforms in general) and what can and/or should be done to improve it.

The dollar can be used once a day. It has to be a dollar’s worth of a product, service or use of a product. For example, A dollar’s worth of a $100 TV would be the life of the TV divided by 100. You would get to enjoy the TV for that amount of time. The product or service is instant and doesn’t require any preparation. It just appears and disappears. Or you could have a TV permanently that is worth one dollar.

I'm about to start a new job working in an arcade and diner and want to wear some earplugs for when I'm working in the noisiest parts on-site, partly to protect my hearing but also to make it easier to hear customers and colleagues over the noise.

Do you guys have any recommendations for brands or particular earplugs types that would be good for this purpose?
