“It’s only illegal if you get caught” has been the unofficial motto of governments since forever, so it’s only fair for citizens to think that way too, right?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

No. Its more like "Its only illegal if you cant pay it".

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Whatever it is, it'll still end up on your record. Of course, if you're rich enough, no one will care.

Do not call up your local Pizza Hut and social engineer a means to get the manager's name. For example, don't say "Hey I have some questions for the hiring manager, are they in? I don't mean to be awkward, but what should I call you so I'm not saying manager for this whole conversation."

Don't order the curse of flames pizza from the local Domino's to the Local Pizza Hut under the Pizza Hut manager's name. The curse of flames pizza is a large well-done thin pizza with no sauce or cheese, only spinach.

Again, don't do any of this. If the Domino's doesn't instantly refund your hypothetical order to the manager of the Pizza hut, an underpaid worker will scoop the embers of the curse of flames pizza out of the oven and put it on a stack of pizza boxes where the embers will catch fire.

Then the Domino's manager will have to use the fire extinguisher and they'll mistakenly sue the manager of the Pizza Hut for property damage.

Again don't do it because once they figure out it was you and not their competitor, they'll come after you for property damage instead. The legal fees on both sides might put the struggling franchise owners at a loss for a bit, and shut down either restaurant for everyone else.

That's why you don't order the Curse of Flames Pizza from Dominos to the manager of the Pizza Hut.

What I want to know is it illegal if you travel to another country and break a law that would be illegal in your country but isn't a law where you're traveling.

In Canada legal drinking age is 19 in the states its 21. So is it illegal if a 19 year old american is drinking in Canada.

No, you only need to abide by the laws of your locality. Just like within your own country in different states or counties. I can't buy alcohol on Sunday morning in my town, but I can if I drive to the next town over.

I heard that in some southern USA state (i think its south carolina) its illegal for unmarried woman to go sky diving on sundays. No joke. Im gonna look that up and be back with a source.

Edit: turns out it was in florida but it doesnt exist anymore https://www.thelawplace.com/blog/weird-florida-laws/

Though especially in states with abortion bans, people are working to challenge this.

OK but let's say its a horrible crime like murder. Let's say elon musk creates a dumb fucking nation in the middle of the sea. Imagine he builds a floating poonton with a flag and a dell computer in the corner dangerously close to the edge and declares murder is legal. So some guy drives their tesla out there, murders a bunch of other idiots and drives back. Is the country just letting them back in?

[–] StuffYouFear 1 points 1 year ago

Tesla makes boats?

I saw warnings in Singapore that it was illegal for their citizens to do drugs, even when in a foreign country. I'm not sure if/how they actually enforce that though

[–] PeterPoopshit 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Failing a drug test gets you prison time and they randomly drug test people in airports.

Many years ago, I seem to remember that failing a drug test in South Dakota could get you 180 days in prison but that no longer seems to be the case and I can't find a source saying if that really was on the books or not. Some states still do criminalize cheating on drug tests though.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

[–] RIP_Cheems 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well how can you get charged for a crime if your never identified?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 year ago

*you're

Your ability to escape consequences doesn’t change the fact that there is a law against it.

Great, advocating for domestic terrorism

Laws are threats made by the dominant socio-economic group. It's just a promise of violence thats enacted and police are basically an occupying army to keep you in line. - Mr Cubby the MailMan

There is a secret ring of Hamas under the Pizza hut right next to the pedophiles and her emails.

There you go now it's self defense.
