Before it was just a button in the fridge. It has a small decorative plate above it that was removable.

Is this how the fridge ships or did the original piece break? I can’t imagine how annoying it was to have to use both hands just to fill up a water bottle. Nice print!

It looked like this originally. For a normal glass of water, an adult used to it could wrap thumb and ring/pinky around the top of the glass, and push with the index finger to do it one-handed. But kids could never, and adults from outside the household were always baffled.

Etsy store was PackardsPrintables. I'm in no way affiliated.

Pays for model, prints it in black instead of white.

Says money bags over here who can afford to pay for models.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Weird downvotes, but ok. It was $5, which is far less than I'd spend on filament prototyping it, let alone time considerations.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The great thing about kbin and lemmy is you can see who down-voted you. It definitely wasn't me. I was just joking around about spending money on stls.

As someone who only ever accesses lemmy with jerboa, I had no idea that info was visible, thank you for mentioning that

So if I go to the web interface I can see upvotes and down votes? Is it only visible for my posts and comments?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

It's a bit weird. Only Kbin has the functionality built in to see who is giving upvotes or downvotes. The information is technically public on Lemmy too because of how federation works, there's just no way to see it in the web UI or apps.

There's a problem though. Downvotes don't federate between Lemmy and Kbin, so we can only ever see downvotes from other Kbin users here. If someone on Lemmy downvotes something, I'd never even see the count change and wouldn't be able to see who did it.

Edit: from my view, no comments in this thread have any downvotes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Weird, and good to know.

There's a Lemmy contingent who feels that nothing digital should ever be paid for, and communicate this through downvotes. I also felt this way when I was a teen, but being in a position to support creators voluntarily is something that I take great pride in now.

The white will almost certainly not match. Maybe it's better to not look like you're trying to match?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It will be much easier to ignore than stark black

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Hol up. You bought that? Why does it look like it was severed by teeth?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago

This is the 3d printing sub. He bought the printable model then printed it. He probably had some artifacts that needed sanding/clipping due to print issues.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

He bought the model

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

That's how prints look on the bottoms when they have supports under them.

[–] BT_7274 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I just printed this out as well! So much better than the button. Though having a grey lever in a white fridge isn’t doing it for me. That’s a good enough excuse to go buy some new filament!

I do think it would be better to print it on the opposite side than what he shows in his screenshots. That way the rougher side where the support material attaches will be facing the inside of the fridge.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah that would make total sense lol. I'll reprint when I get some white filament and print with the other side down. No idea why I didn't think of it.

One other printing tip: pull the z of the model down a few layers. The way it is modeled has the plate touched by only a single point. Pulling it down and making (what should be the right side, but I printed left) of the lever flat gave me better bed adhesion.

I consider myself fortunate. Basically any mechanical or structural thing I could want, I can just sit down and design something. Maybe I need to sell models.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

You definitely should. I can design well enough for random BS, but can't be bothered to perfect something. $5 is well worth the time saved for me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Teach me oh wise and mighty one! Or just give me the STL, because I have this same refrigerator and it's the stupidest design on the planet.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

It's $10 on Etsy, but I left it in my cart overnight and got a coupon for 50% off. It would be completely unethical for you to DM me and ask me for a link to a direct download and for me to provide that link.

[–] psyc 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Link to where to buy the model?

Thank you! I have the same thing in my fridge this looks super useful

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

FYI, keep the file in your cart overnight and you'll get a 50% off coupon. Sorry I forgot to mention it.

[–] Touching_Grass 0 points 1 year ago

Thought I was on reddit for a minute.
