They populate the front page based on views, not votes. People (like you for instance, and possibly now several people reading this thread) are increasingly visiting r/conservative right now.
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I'm pretty sure the reddit algorithm tailors itself to your behavior. If you go to or click on a post from a certain sub, it'll increase how often it shows up in your feed. Downvote and it'll decrease how often it shows up. Also, it pushes posts that have a high upvote count compared to baseline for that sub instead of purely on upvote count.
I have a Reddit account. I strictly use it for....science. that's all I have had in my feed. 100% science every single day for years.
now, I see political posts, conservative bullshit, etc.
It's not just you. There is a coordinated effort from Big Tech to effectively take over the US Govt.
I mean, r/movies is trending higher with even less votes.
And the r/conservative post has 6000 comments like the top post, while the rest are only 4000.
Sounds to me like just another algorithm than a push towards conservatism.
Controversial post easily make front page for a while now.
I always hated that reddit goes for roller coaste algorithim, you cant get max dopamine youll be satisfied and youll leave, instead you need the highs and lows from controversy to maximize the amount of ads we see, I was so over it when ads started showing up inbetween comments
6k comments, flaired users only? Sus.
Lmao dude have you ever actually looked at the restrictions on the vast majority of the popular posts on /r/conservative? It’s honestly comical. They’re super locked down.
Reeks of LLM spam
The flaired thing always made me laugh. Biggest babies out there. Just think of that Kyle kid crying in court
i don't miss those +1k comment threads, scrolling them gets annoying, also, i recused from commenting if there was already +150, otherwise was like talking to the void
Its interesting that on lemmy almost everyone gets some kind of upvote/downvote (interaction) whereas on reddit and other sites, you either get viral success or...nothing. No upvotes/downvotes no interactions. My theory is the algorithm + number of people de-humanizes the act of communication in such large communities.
i used to sort by r/new for years, i learned what mods liked to take down, so i didn't waste time on those post, then make some funny/attempt-to-clever comment and watched raise to the front page as top comment, it was like playing a video game for me
OMG I did the same thing too... but the funny/sad thing was that I started doing those "typical reddit" comments that weren't really insightful but got lots of upvotes. Then when I came here to Lemmy I had to stop myself from making those kinds of comments.
Human to me means small groups and being heard by other humans. I hope Lemmy doesn't hyper-centralize.
I enjoyed the void, commenting into the void was my favorite pastime til I did it on an alt and got autopermbanned, some thread with thousands of comments and it instabanned all my alts and main account
Reddit doesn't remove removed commented from the count.
I mean if they did then most conservative posts would have like 5 comments
It always annoyed me when a post reached the front page and they limited who was allowed to comment on it. I usually didn’t even know what sub I was in until after I typed my comment and clicked submit. Followed by auto mod deleting my post.
I forgot how much I hated that about Reddit. Good riddance.
It’s where all the ML Wumao flocked. They killed the Democratic Party, now they’re going after the republicans. They don’t care about Gaza, it’s all about starting an American civil war.
I feel like the Democratic Party did a lot of this to themselves. They’ve been stepping on rakes for a while now.
I can’t argue with that. But the genocide Joe chant spread far and wide, meanwhile the creators of it knew very well what a Trump win would accomplish.
I don't notice anything on Reddit because I never go there anymore. I swear some of y'all treating Reddit like that ex you never shut up about and keep stalking every five minutes to check if their life turned out better than yours.
Edit: My bad guys. Didn't pay attention to what community this post was in.
Not saying your wrong lol. But this is the /c/reddit community. We are not going to go and post on reddit about this (well not anymore). And my local community is not going to remove themselves on reddit unless something pretty horrific happens. I like fediverse more (so im supporting that).
You ain't tho haha...
We would hate to see her do her best with a trump voter
Does it also count if you don't stalk your ex yourself but do stalk a community dedicated to stalking that exact same ex?
I like to hear the shit that goes down there (and other sites) for multiple reasons.
so i can discuss these ongoing enshitification with friends i know still frequent it and are not on the fediverse.
to archive/understand/study the dynamics of enshitificication/collapse/fascist momentum so i may learn how to defend against those and if successful educate others.
to deliver dopamine to my brain by feeding the inbuild superiority complex within my human mind. Most of us enjoy seeing our choices redeemed. Shallow and primitive yes but so is arguable 90% of social media.
They are using that sub to split reddit hive mind lol
Same way they used bootlicker to split Luigi sentiment.
It ain't working haha
Exposure does have impact, don’t kid yourself. There’s a reason ads work the way they are.
It also gives people a false sense of consensus and creates artificial peer pressure.
No also. That’s just how it works.
You ain't wrong... A reminder to stay vigilant
Fwiw, if you use old reddit, posts have an upvote percentage (not counting any vote fuzzing). To calculate number of downvotes:
NetScore / upvote% - NetScore.
Unfortunately reddit has fuzzed their up/downvotes for many years now. So every reload is going to get different numbers.
I think they have upped the amount of fuzzing more recently too.
this post was submitted on 05 Feb 2025 9,822 points (83% upvoted)
This is what the percentage is for this post. Posting this in case anyone is curious as to the percentage in agreement. Reddit groups that have a "flair" policy do not stop you from up or down voting a post.
Reaction bait
Definitely noticed this, commenting to argue got me banned off some subs that assume commenters are conservative, reddit is slowly on its way out
Reason i went to Redit Sync because you could bloke subs and individuals or even key words. Life was more enjoyable when you could block the Leonard or conservatives.
