In July, he publicly referred to people on SSRI’s and ADHD medications as “addicts.”

To begin it's already "let's have a non doctor make health policies and decide what medications we can and cannot use in the entire country, what's the worst that could happen?"

But then that non doctor is also a (possible ex?) drug junkie with conspiracy theory beliefs.

USA! USA! USA!

[–] IndustryStandard 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

You think politicians would that? Lie to people?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 hour ago

I saw some of it & the guy is barely coherent. If he came into work like that, I would have him breathalysed & drug screened!

[–] [email protected] 41 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Every conservative on the Supreme Court was asked point blank if they'd repeal RvW and they all straight up said 'it's settled law'.

There are no repercussions to lying yet many rewards.

[–] lepinkainen 8 points 2 hours ago

Exactly.

The whole system is based on people having some decency and respect.

The Cult doesn’t have either, they will blatantly lie because they know there is no actual penalty.

I know people, including members of my family, who’ve had a much worse time getting off of SSRIs than they did than people have getting off heroin

Uhh, yeah, because stopping a medication intended to alleviate depression tends to... you know, bring back someone's depressive symptoms.

Classic - someone who's never taken SSRIs, thinking SSRIs are a magic mood lifter, akin to taking a hit of heroin. SSRIs don't work like that. Their effects are subtle, and all they do is enable me emotional stability. I was briefly off SSRIs for a few months last year (link to my post about reacquiring my psych meds.) This guy has no idea what he's about to stir up. SSRIs are the only thing keeping me from throwing everything in my life away and accepting that if I'm going to die miserably, I might as well do something crazy to take down the system with me.

I take Adderall (generic) for ADHD and it just makes my brain not feel "numb" and also helps me not feel quite as exhausted as I had been for decades before I got medication.

It helps regulate my mood, executive function, etc.

Right now it's not working quite as well as normal since the last week or so has had a lot of stresses on top of the political anxiety of being a queer woman, but having been in this state before medication I would be useless if I didn't have it.

Same thing happened after the election for a week or so and I had to ration during that time and I got a stark reminder how poorly depression and ADHD go together.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning 3 points 2 hours ago

I still haven’t gotten back on Adderall. I need to get an EKG before I can get back on it, but I don’t have a primary physician to perform it for me. Which means I have to make another few dozen phone calls to get a PP, then schedule the EKG, then wait for my next psych appointment, then hope that Adderall will even be available when the prescription finally get into my hands.

Also, hello fellow queer woman! At least we’re not alone.

[–] wide_eyed_stupid 19 points 3 hours ago

I am completely shocked by this unexpected turn of events. He lied? How is this possible? I always thought fascists were the paragons of truth.

So true I'm addicted to being able to fall asleep

[–] notsoshaihulud 46 points 15 hours ago

What I find hilarious about RFK, is that he's supposed to be this paragon of health, with his spasmodic dysphonia, documented mercury poisoning, and history of heroin addiction. Also, while neurocysticercosis (most common brain worm) is common and is like the most common cause of symptomatic epilepsy in the developing world, DO NOT EVER take public health advice from someone with a history of a brain worm.

His take on antidepressants is also like he wants people to raw dog the next 4 years.

[–] omega_x3 22 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

He gets Botox injections in his throat to help with his vocal cords. If only there were other ways that purposely getting injected with dead or weakened virus could help people.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Technically, botox is just the toxin of botulinum, which also is a bacterium, not a virus.

[–] MattTheProgrammer 0 points 2 hours ago

This just in, there are bacterial vaccines too...

[–] [email protected] 119 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Oh fuck, I hadn't even thought of this chucklefucks views on this stuff. I'm totally going to lose my Adderall and then, shortly after, my job.

[–] [email protected] 90 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Don't worry, he's got a great plan for you. Forced labor on a government run "no technology wellness farm" with limited contact to the outside world.

Slavery cures ADHD and depression, right?

[–] [email protected] 30 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Oh shit, I thought you were making the "wellness farm" part up...

[–] [email protected] 13 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

You'll do well in the fields comrade. The company town will provide for you ;)

[–] [email protected] 81 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

Former 15 year Heroin junkie throwing shade on people with real afflictions. Brain rotted moron.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Addiction isn't a "real affliction"?

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool 5 points 2 hours ago

Yes it fucking is

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Jesus Christ you know what I meant. This shit was tiring on Reddit and I will will call out you pedantic assholes here too

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

What? No, I didn't know what you meant, only what you posted. Which heavily implied that addiction isn't a real affliction.

Am I supposed to be able to read your fucking mind?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 hours ago

No I didn't. I said people with ADHD had a real affliction. It was RFK who was trying to trivialize it

[–] [email protected] 23 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Just to be clear that’s a pretty low blow. There’s so much fucked about the guy without going against addiction, which is a real and devastating illness.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It's about the hypocrisy. He's had real addiction issues and considers blind-tested medicine to be the same. I don't think anyone that has had a heroin addiction should ever be the top government healthcare voice, no matter their personal recovery. You need to earn that position and his past should completely disqualify him.

[–] AbidanYre 20 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

Or anyone whose brain has been eaten by a worm.

Edit: grammar

[–] [email protected] 15 points 16 hours ago

Or anyone [whose] brain has been eaten by a worm.

I feel like that should be on a questionnaire somewhere. "Have you done these drugs?", "Is there a worm controlling your brain now?", "Can we talk to the worm?", etc

[–] [email protected] 73 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

Sending people to government run "wellness farms" in the country for "reparenting" doesn't sound terrifying at all.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 15 hours ago

Did I say forced labor camp? I meant happy camp!

[–] Snowclone 12 points 19 hours ago

We all know he's a nut job and we don't want him in any position of power, but hay, coattails!

Go ahead, take away my antidepressants dickhead, see how long it takes me to eat a bullet. I'll make sure to do it where you can watch.

[–] fox2263 15 points 17 hours ago

I hope the hearing ask him about the worm controlling him.

And then about the dead worm they found in his brain as well.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Not like it'll make any difference to his confirmation.

[–] patacon_pisao 9 points 16 hours ago

Exactly, I lost hope once Hegseth was confirmed, it’s like the more shit they’ve done or said that disqualified them 20 years ago the better they do in present day

[–] [email protected] 17 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

I hate this country. If I didn’t have my son here with me, I’d try my best to get into Canada. I wouldn’t go without him.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool 0 points 2 hours ago

As a Canadian, no. Fix your country, don’t come here to make our situation worse

[–] [email protected] 10 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Assuming your son is a minor then as long as you can meet PR reqs for Canada you'll often be able to bring them across with you. I will grant that if there are complex medical needs involved this gets a lot more difficult - but if you can get full citizenship then family members are much easier to get in.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 18 hours ago

His mom would not allow it. I don’t want to take him away from her, he doesn’t deserve that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Good thing my psychiatrist doesn’t subscribe to stupid bullshit, or I might be worried.

[–] MacAttak8 12 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

Won’t matter if FDA approval for your psychotropic meds is revoked that’s the worry. Your trusted (excellent to you) psychiatrist can’t prescribe illegal drugs.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Just imagine how quickly this nation would grind to a halt (and likely erupt into violence), if everyone in the US were refused their SSRIs and ADHD meds all at once. Would be a fucking nightmare.

[–] MacAttak8 1 points 1 hour ago

Definitely not something I would want to imagine. I don’t take any of those medicines myself. It would still be absolutely devastating at a personal level. I am in a similar situation to millions of my fellow Americans, and I think you are correct that it would result in violence. Violent self harm bare minimum.
