But we fired a lot of our mentors after Y2K to save money that quarter. And the juniors there had no learning as to the whys of the whats when it comes to best practice. I will say that at my current job, remote IT work is in the contract. Because we're union. And getting it out of the contract and risking shutdown because so many critical systems are run by people far away? Not a good idea. I hope it's here to stay.

When I was part of the large crew maintaining AT&T Unix, like, the holy Grail, we used windows desktops.
Why? We didn't have to futz with modelines or any such nonsense and for our needs - Mozilla, winamp, vanDyke(ssh) - it was excellent. You don't want to drive the proverbial bus all day and fix the bus all night !

Air Canada has apologized to customers who were allegedly escorted off a plane for refusing to sit in a chair covered with vomit for the duration of their over four-hour flight.
The airline issued a statement after a viral Facebook post claimed two as-yet unidentified female flyers were told there was nothing to be done about the visible vomit on their soiled seats.
