/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

for a split second I thought that this was Zuckerberg but I realized he's a lot more lifelike and expressive.

And more capable of empathy. And more proficient in hand to hand combat.

Edit: and liked and respected by a living engineer!

Can we really? I hope we can.

#1 rule: DO NOT BEND THE KNEE PREEMPTIVELY

Unless they have a gun to your head shouting 'that's illegal' , do as you always have. And even it if is illegal. We've all torrented and weed smoked, think of it as practice

And think of those dumbfuck EOs he keeps signing as presidential wishes, they're not automatically law.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago (3 children)

We can! Everyone can take part in small acts of resistance. If you haven't already, the OSS (precursor to the CIA) circulated pamphlets in nazi-occupied countries to help ordinary citizens fight the nazis. Here it is if you're interested: Simple Sabotage Field Manual

I was banned from a discord server today for mocking their continued use of Twitter links.

They warned me that if I couldn't respect their choice, they'd remove me. I responded by asking if it's okay if I roman salute then.

big fan of "bring a bag of moths to the cinema" (p.30)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is there a modern version of this? I did a quick read through and, given our large surveillance network, some of these things aren't practical.

Also, unless you specifically target alt-right targets, the likelihood of collateral damage is pretty high.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Yeah, it's pretty dated, and some of it just doesn't work. If there's a newer version, it's probably classified. Though, the stuff in the back about office work and everyday type stuff still applies.

Really, I think it should be used as a starting point to start thinking about resistance. For example, although not specifically mentioned, an IT tech can "accidentally" misconfigure a service to make it unavailable. Similarly, if you're a straight white male, you can raise a pride flag or the flag of a Central American country. It's not illegal, and it can force a small amount of resources to be diverted to investigating you rather than a minority.

There are a million ways to creatively resist that also don't cause collateral damage. The goal is to sap their resources and morale.

[–] Sh0ckw4ve 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did you mean to say if you are a straight white male?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Yep. Edited. Thanks for catching that!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Literally false flag operations. Nice one.

The next four years won't end because a fascist doesn't leave office until the bullet leaves their skull.

[–] Xanthobilly 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Here’s hoping a hamberder saves us.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

we need Daniels to cook him some hamberders, just like he always did before, medium rare.

[–] FlyingSquid 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Killing Trump will not end this. After him is Vance. If you kill Vance, you get Johnson. And then cabinet members. It's fascists all the way down.

[–] RizzRustbolt 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If you lined up nine dogs and started shooting them one by one, by dog four the rest will get the point.

[–] FlyingSquid 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Pithy, but that's literally not how anything works.

[–] RizzRustbolt 3 points 6 days ago

The world would be a much better place if it worked the way Philomena Cunk thought it did.

[–] Snowclone 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Who said kill Trump? No one killed Hitler. He had to do it himself. And we're right on track to destroying the country and collapsing the economy to the point people in charge just might be cowering in a bunker with a warm gun to keep them safe.

[–] FlyingSquid 1 points 6 days ago

You're saying that like it's a good thing rather than event where potentially millions could die first.

[–] negativenull 14 points 1 week ago

Resistance is inevitable

These next few years indeed are going to be tough on everyone, pushing people to their limits (and some, sadly, beyond).

Enough even to make bubbly eyed Gowron sad:-(

Stay strong and kind!

[–] FlyingSquid 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know how to make Gowron happy again... I'll just fast forward the video tape!

Okay, not happy... but happy for Gowron.

^(Yes,^ ^I^ ^know^ ^that's^ ^technically^ ^not^ ^Gowron.)^

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Tbf Gowron happy is a terrifying sight!:-)

What about that active phaser in the buffering stream?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

This one little detail is why I believe Data did actually have some semblance of emotions even without the emotion chip, and that Dr. Soong was correct that emotions could manifest on their own if Data had the right experiences. It just sucks that the experience that triggered it was one that made him angry enough to try and kill a dude (even if that dude deserved it).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Possible. I believe that Data tried to minimize harm to living creatures by trying to no longer permit Fajos scheme (Data was imprisioned by Fajo, some rare creatures and another humanoid live Fajo killed earlier and put the blame on Data) and as such shooting at him. In sum: Data calculated the variables.

[–] EmpathicVagrant 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

O’Brien just wanted his captives to have a fighting chance, nothing ever comes out of the buffer.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can think of one exception: something that is so cute (how cute is it?), it's so cute that he can't bear to keep it locked away:

Hope must be granted to the masses, but not in any consequential way.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Cheese snacks are very consequential!

Uh wait I mean no they aren't, so you can totally give one to ~~me~~ him right now...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

O'Brien is really a good lad.

[–] EmpathicVagrant 3 points 1 week ago

O’Brien is really a god, lad.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

"I cannot permit this to continue".

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I would be genuinely astounded if anybody does anything other than go to work, keep their head down, and try to survive... But more power to you, my guy

[–] surewhynotlem 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I already am. I've started meeting people in my community and joining local aid groups to help out people who are falling through the cracks. I've gone to school meetings and pushed back on the screechy mom's against reason.

Not everyone needs to burn down buildings. Not everyone should. Just pushing against the bad stuff and making them work for every inch helps.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You have my respect and support, friend 👍

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

Everyone can do something, even if it's small. Simple sabotage like non-compliance, malicious compliance, malicious incompetence, "forgetting" in a way detrimental to the government, even just vocally/visibly supporting minorities and denouncing the current government helps.

Not everyone realizes this, but if you spread the word on these simple methods, we can slow them down and frustrate their plans. And that is an act of resistance, too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

I hope you'll buck the trend, and show them it can be done :)

Hopefully resistance will help people who can't do the things that most people can. Like disabled people who Are forced into extreme poverty. And actually help each other as a form of resistance.

[–] FlyingSquid 3 points 1 week ago

I just hope resistance isn't futile.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Vote harder than you ever voted before

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 week ago

I was planning on protesting whoever won, I am opposed to parts of both parties platforms. Since he won, I'll be protesting Trump's stuff I guess.
