Don't need firefighters if fires are banned

Would love to see a SWAT team try to raid a wildfire.

Lot of dead dogs in the confusion after someone yells “fire!”

With a big police department, that means they get plenty of volunteers for the fire department

Nah that's what the inmates are for, it's a tax savings strategy!

Hey we have a long way to go but we're far better than a lot of other states as regards our incarcerated firefighter teams. The pay is abysmal but more than other states, they receive training and proper gear, and with the help of nonprofit advocates we're making real progress on getting them into real firefighter jobs once they're out. Importantly, some are seeing themselves appreciated and celebrated for the first time in their lives, which is a step towards rehabilitation. Something that hasn't been a part of the US penal system in general for decades.

Are they allowed to join CalFire upon release?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

They're allowed to apply and their experience counts in their favor. There's a background check as for any other applicant, so particularly violent crimes or arson might exclude them.

They’re too coward. Can’t shoot or tase a fire out.

The police are an income source since they can confiscate property and create legal slaves.

The fire department is pretty much a pure cost center.

And somehow this one dude McClane still did better than the entire LA police department, even though they brought a fucking tank and McClane didn't even have any shoes on.

Police are disguisingly overpaid. Firefighters should always be paid more. Full stop.
