Every single other voice assistant should absolutely say that in response to hearing “Hey, Siri.”

[–] [email protected] 16 points 6 days ago

"Hey, err, Alexa...

_How fucking dare you."

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 days ago

maybe in 10 years when we train an ai to know when to respond

They won't, because adding more wake words makes it much more likely to be triggered accidentally.

My samsung phone regularly wakes to people talking in videos on my computer. They don't even say anything that sounds to me like hey google or Bixby. THEN it never seems to want to work when I try to use it.

Just realized I don't think I've been sick since I had COVID three and a half years ago.

PUNY HUMANS, I HAVE BECOME IMMORTAL !!!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago

Hey, wake up. Please wake, up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

I think Ive gotten sick twice in the last 2 years. One seemed like it could've been covid but the test failed so technically I'm still covid free 🎉, but the other was just because I went out without proper warm clothes on a rainy night and caught a cold.

I really feel this comic.

I was sick beginning of December, mostly recovered after a week and I went back to work, but my throat still hurts when speaking - had 3 weeks off around Christmas, rested my voice, visited doctor for meds, but it’s still not gone. Doctors are still not sure what it is, but similar thing happens a lot with covid, so maybe it’s that.

Such a small thing, but lasts so long and doesn’t improve, I have zero control over it, and it makes me hopeless. I feel like it broke me, a successful manager, a married man in my 30s, I was crying yesterday when walking my dog.

Not sure how long can I go on working this way - I could of course go on sick leave, but doing that just after returning from a long holiday and kicking off a new project, will not make me too popular, and would guarantee that I miss the promotion I’m working for.

Stuff like this is why everybody who says shit like "it's just a cold, move on" is a cunt.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

Most of those ppl are too smoothbrain to realise the difference between a symptom and a disease.

Also, most of those are also the ones coming to work with a cold and cough and spreading it to others by coughing on shared-use equipment like keyboards and sometimes even coughing right at other's faces.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

While reading your comment I was wondering if you’re working for the company I’m working for. So many similarities.

But there are no promotions on our firm, so no.

Take a few days rest, mate. It’s not worth it.

The best cold remedy is drinking a finely diced onion boiled in beer.
It doesn't help at all, but it tastes so aweful, your body will think twice about getting another cold in the future.

7-10 days? I can't remember the last time I was sick for more than 2...

[–] Telodzrum 2 points 5 days ago

Symptoms that are severe enough to make you change your behavior are rarely present for more than 24-48 hours for the common cold. However, mild malaise, fatigue, aches, and a cough often persist well outside of that period.

[–] GreenKnight23 1 points 6 days ago

still sick right now. it's been three weeks.

not even covid either.

been off my antibiotics for about one week . at this point.

I swear these new "colds/flus" are either shady government developed superbugs that lost containment, or shady pharmaceutical superbugs introduced to the public to increase profits.

[–] suodrazah 5 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Am I not supposed to continue smashing cones? Because cold, flu, covid... has always been improved in me with an enormous intake of THC.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

The virus is to high to do it's job.

[–] BugleFingers 1 points 6 days ago

I've found a chemically induced coma has fixed up my (light viral) illnesses right quick and painlessly! 😌

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

I always go for tylenol complete, the nighttime ones knocks you out at night, and the daytime ones make you feel like a god who can do anything. This is not a paid advertisement but if you’re listening Tylenol, then it could be!

There are tips and tricks to help ease the symptoms.

For example, if you eat out out some gingers, you'll die happy.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I am so confused by this comment, and further confused as to all the upvotes.

There is clearly an inside joke that I'm not getting, or people are really hot for gingers.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 6 days ago

Ginger tea is actually amazing when you have a cold. Especially if you make it with fresh ginger. Burns away all your snot and some of the pain in my experience.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 days ago

Guilty as charged, I'd for sure eat out a Ginger right now if there's a chance she'll break my fever, hell even if she can't!

Drink liquids to stay hydrated, use lotion-impregnated tissues to avoid drying out your nose when you blow it, take a DayQuil.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 6 days ago (1 children)

lotion-impregnated tissues

I make those myself.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago

Stop making too many of those when you are sick. It takes too many nutrients, which would otherwise go into replenishing WBCs.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 6 days ago

...I am a degenerate.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Can confirm, am sick and many cocktails have made me feel much better.

I'm just gonna share this here and leave it up to people as to whether not to believe me, but when I moved to Canada I had gotten a really bad cold. An old lady I worked with asked me if I had ever taken Echenacia. Hadn't heard of it. She said to start taking it at the first sign of cold symptoms and continue 3x daily like an antibiotic until the symptoms have cleared. No joke, every cold I've had since then (2017) has only lasted 4 days or less, and the symptoms are very manageable and mild.

It's honestly the single most effective supplement I've ever entertained, and it's relatively inexpensive to pick up in any pharmacy or supplement aisle.

[–] scarilog 4 points 6 days ago

Hmm would love if this was true, but checking on Google scholar it looks like most studies say using this as a treatment for the cold doesn't conclusively show any link to a shorter duration of sickness, etc.

[–] Matriks404 1 points 6 days ago

Back before COVID every cold I had lasted a day or two. Now my immune system is fucked up.

Placebos are so effective, we've just started selling them explicitly (Zeebo). If it's cheap and doesn't have any negative effects, I don't care if it's a placebo or more; it works.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It's wild if it is purely placebo, because I've given so many anecdotal cure supplements an honest shot throughout my life, and have ruled every last one of them out as either ineffective, or total horseshit. But the results I experience (as well as my wife, who is officially onboard with Echenacia now) are astounding.

Getting sick used to be a nightmare for me. I would always end up with a horrible sore throat and sinus infection that would inevitably go to my lungs and/or ears, and it would persist up to two weeks. Now I just shrug it off in a few days.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

I fucking feel this. Every time I start to get a cold Im like “FUCK THE NEXT WEEK”

[–] jordanlund 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Day 6 here. :( First 3 days I crawled into a bottle of NyQuill.

[–] PunnyName 2 points 1 week ago

Buh, no fair!
