This means you can buy a brand-new Cybertruck straight from the manufacturer cheaper than Sledder is asking to sell his used truck.

what a tool

Yeah, that's not how car buying and selling works.

I can't even give away my 2006 Corolla for 60,000!

You don't understand!

This is a Tesla!

If the stock keeps going up, if the P/E keeps going up, that means this car is an appreciating asset, an investment!

It'll self drive one day!

It always gets software upgrades!

Please!

I'll throw in 0.0034 DogeCoin!

(In actuality the attempt at pricing here is following the same logic as the private home / apartment sales / rental market: I am hugely in the hole from my mortgage / renovation, and my price reflects mainly what I need to become financially sound again, fuck the concept of 'fair market value' when it isn't convenient for me, personally.)

Losing money on a bad investment just means you aren't hustling hard enough, dawg. /s

In this instance the "Corolla" cost 80,000 new and he can't sell it for 60 because theyre now 60 new. With only a couple kmi he'll have to sell it at 55 or less. Normal used trucks don't lose much value.

Oh no! I bought a vehicle several years ago and now i can't recoup what i paid plus modifications! What is this, a depreciating asset?!!

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s hilarious. Also, selling at a $35000 loss and it still costs over $70k? Fuck that. I could buy better EVs for everyone in my family for that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago

you could buy 5 of my car for that

I'm 99.9% certain that the Tesla Cybertruck "owner" referenced by this article is a bot.

This truck looks exactly like something Elon drew on a napkin

[–] Lon3star 3 points 3 weeks ago

The first and likely last that involved him in the design process

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

Pretty sure my son drew a picture of the cybertruck when he was like 5.

When he was 11

I'll admit that it looks better with the black wrap, but it's still a monstrosity.

All cars loose value when you drive them off the lot. Typically ~10% immediately, then it goes to 20% in the first year according to https://www.ramseysolutions.com/saving/car-depreciation

to loose 30% so quickly.... yeah, that's pretty bleak.

[–] scutiger 1 points 3 weeks ago

As the article mentions though, there are other factors adding to that, such as government incentives and better features on the newer editions that already cost less. Who's going to buy a worse, used version of a product for more money than the better, brand new model costs?

Besides, the guy hasn't lost any money. He bought a truck and he still has it. He could drive it, but he chooses not to.
