If you only believe that elections are "fair" when your side wins, then you don't believe in elections.

[–] madcaesar 31 points 20 hours ago (5 children)

Don't worry Democrats will run Hillary in 2028, surely she'll win this time!

[–] TheFonz 12 points 12 hours ago

DNC staff: if you're reading this - this is a joke. We do not in fact want Hillary Clinton to run. Please. No.

4 fears later: Oh ffs....

[–] Gammelfisch 1 points 7 hours ago

Please not her. Find somebody younger!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 12 hours ago

In 2028 Democrats will run Eric Trump (Don Jr for the red team).

[–] [email protected] 11 points 18 hours ago

Ah yes, we can now see she simply wasn't old enough yet

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago

Cute you think there will be a free election in 2028 lol

[–] GeneralEmergency 12 points 18 hours ago

Well the American left wouldn't turn out to vote, what makes you think they'd try and storm the capital?

[–] [email protected] 155 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ah yes, Dems adhere to longstanding norms and lose while Republicans lie, cheat, exploit, steal, and win. What a fun game.

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie 55 points 1 day ago (4 children)

If there is nothing in place to prevent the lieing, cheating, and stealing then you're really just putting yourself at a disadvantages by not doing it.

[–] Dkarma 32 points 1 day ago

There are but the Dems refused to use them.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

By normalizing these behaviours yhu create the moral and political framework in which your opponent thrives. Fascist dont need to win. They can just wait for "Democrats" to dismantle themselves.

Also pretending like the Democratic party isnt big on lying, cheating and stealing too, does not help either. They lost because what they pretended to be and what they really are disparged a lot. The Trumpists are honest about who they are, so they attract the same kind of people, wheras the Dems did everything to alienate people with morals.

And then the Dems turned around and attacked the minorities they pretended to want to protect from Trump, because they didnt suck up to them anymore.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 12 hours ago

They already thrive, so what's the point of not doing it?

[–] Clinicallydepressedpoochie 11 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

Trumpists are honest about who they are

I could not disagree more. They are unashamed about their behavior but they are not honest.

[–] DicJacobus 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

at this point the media and internet is mostly dominated by republican sympathetic sycophants, its going to be incredibly hard for the democrats to ever win again. they're going to do everything in their power to move the peices to secure the GOP's control indefinetely, so that even once Trump is dead, they'll still win the elections. because guess what, people are fickle, petty, and stupid. and its very easy to use the media, TV Internet or otherwise, to sway opinions.

I am not blind that this is likely just as much Foreign involvement as it is domestic action. Russia is pulling a lot of the puppet strings behind this movement. So much so that I think they even have leverage on not just Trump, but probably Elon Musk too. Elon is small potatoes compared to the wealth of Vladimir Putin, a man who stole from a cartoonishly wealthy in material country for 25 years and put it straight into his pockets.

lieing

It's "lying". It's spelled the same as lying (down).

What I like is the speech Kamela gave afterwards about fighting for your rights. Do you even see yourself, "democrats", and what you have become!? I'll be proven wrong if "democracy", or what passes for it in the current oligarchy, manages to survive a Trump presidency. I don't think I will be, I think this is really it.

[–] TheDemonBuer 298 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Another moral victory for Democrats. If only such victories mattered.

[–] themeatbridge 84 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Imagine a tug of rope where only one side is pulling.

[–] whostosay 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The other side just pushed the rope, it doesn't necessarily put the other side at any more of an advantage than just letting go, but it absolutely puts you at a disadvantage because well, you just can't be bothered to pull that rope as well as signalling you're not willing to play the game. Rejecting progressives was pushing the rope, Liz fucking Cheney and all the Republican pandering was pushing the rope. The last minute drop out was pushing the rope.

I'm not giving these shitters another vote until they run serious progressive politicians and policies. We are at rock bottom, and I'll be damned if I enable this shit again.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (8 children)

This stuff annoys me so much. I would not vote for them if they acted like republicans.

[–] TheDemonBuer 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Over 90 million eligible voters didn't vote for either Trump or Harris in 2024. If Democrats had managed to get just a few percent of those people to vote for them in key swing districts, she would have won. I think they could have done that without having to "act like Republicans."

[–] rayyy 3 points 17 hours ago

Given the foreign influences to weaken the U.S., media control of the news by corporations, gerrymandering and fox media disinformation, it's not surprising. Biden could have cured cancer, eliminated world hunger and given free eggs to everyone and he would have still lost.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago (5 children)

exactly. although I think the fault may more fall on the folks that want trump in office. I think they are called republicans. The way I hear it they are responsible for 100% of republican victories and indeed the republicans would not even exist except due to the voting habits of people who vote for them.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's really a chicken and egg question. Republicans vote for Republican leaders. Why? Well, largely because they are uninformed about how bad those leaders are for everyone. Why are they uninformed? Republican leaders have savagely gutted both the media and education system, ensuring the average American remains uninformed. Therefore uninformed Americans vote Republican against their own interest because the Republicans are right there ready with the catcher's mitt to receive the results of their investment - that being uneducated, underinformed Americans who are easily propagandized and who lack the tools or knowledge to read between the lines. Couple this with regular statements that "the enemy" will try to lie to you, and you have all these people like clay in your hands. They'll believe anything you tell them on the news, and disbelieve anything anyone else says merely on the grounds of "Fox News didn't tell me that was true". And that right there is your core Republican voting bloc. That's 78 year old Auntie Mabel who doesn't really know what all is going on but the TV tells her that Mr Trump will make the economy better. That's also Jimbob Truknuttz who shoots 200 rounds of 22LR at a photo of Joe Biden every day because his TV and his friends have taught him that liberals are a threat to his way of life. Brad Dudeguy, 28 year old cis white male, thinks the gays and the transes are freaks because the news his parents watch present them as sexual terrorists every single night. Rico Chavez was born in Texas after his parents immigrated from Mexico, and they don't have big opinions about politics, but everyone in his neighborhood has Trump signs up so he and his parents go with the crowd.

This is an entire class of people built and bred for the purpose of voting republican. They get their hooks in from literal birth, controlling not only the schooling and local media access of the child but also the availability, or rather lack thereof, of contraceptives for the parents, all but ensuring more children - ergo more republican voters down the line. It is a propaganda pipeline that would be actually impressive if not for its abject evil. If they put this amount of effort into actually educating their citizens properly we could be decades ahead of where we are currently. But instead they maintain this repressive environment because it all but guarantees indoctrination of future voters. Those who don't fit in will frequently move away to a different more like-minded area, or (perhaps more frequently, in some areas) will be killed by the locals, either police or gangs (biker or otherwise) or just regular old domestic violence - either way, dangerously open minded folks will be weeded out of the population naturally. What remains is a self reinforcing bubble of whatever you can feed these folks on the trusted evening "news". This picture that I've painted encompasses wide swaths of rural America, mostly across the south and Midwest but definitely not limited to there.

America has decided to roll over and let fascism take root.

Our ancestors would be utterly ashamed.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm more concerned with what our descendents are going to think.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago

They won’t think much of anything, considering what Trump is about to do to the Department of Education.

[–] fluxion 2 points 19 hours ago

Just be glad most of us won't be around anymore to find out

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You mean the slave owners who only wanted white landowners to vote?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mine were the ones fleeing Italian fascism who thought this would be better.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Mine came here fleeing persecution during the German revolutions in 1848.

Is there a way to save a comment so it alerts me back to it 4 years from now?

[–] DarkFuture 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, but it requires learning. You may not have that option soon with what Republicans ran on doing to our education system.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Tbf, learning has taken a nose dive while under the Department of ED. It's.... Really, really bad.

[–] DarkFuture 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Do you believe education should be privatized so that only the privileged receive one?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 hours ago

No, but to pretend the choices are one or the other is ridiculous.

Oh c'mon Biden, it's not too late to have him official business'd!

[–] Cocodapuf 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Honestly, he should push that law to its limit before trump abuses it daily.

[–] [email protected] 72 points 1 day ago

Just a reminder, since these people view everything through the lens of power they view the peaceful transfer of power as us being weak and them being strong and that we're giving in because "we know they can kick our ass" or some dumb shit. Basically, they view things like this as though we're cowering in the corner begging them to stop when it's really the basics of a functioning society.

[–] themeatbridge 64 points 1 day ago

Kamala had a chance to do the funniest thing.

[–] Bonesince1997 54 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Huh, no presentation of the gallows this time. Must be budget cuts.

[–] Brunbrun6766 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Have you seen the price of lumber lately?

[–] glitchdx 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I remember when you could buy a 2x4 for a buck. It wasn't that many years ago.

The cohort that controls the Democratic Party are perfectly content to pantomime gentlemanly decorum while being led into the ovens of a fascist authoritarian oligarchy. I’m just completely done with their bullshit.
