I still mask. It's starting to make some people I encounter in public angry as we enter into the Year of Our Lord 2025. Some dude started bitching at me in the store a few weeks ago, and I decided to try hissing at him like Nadja the vampire on What We Do In The Shadows, and he shut right up.

Wearing a mask is a sign that you're sick and are willing to take measures to prevent others from catching what you have. What a sorry state of affairs we're in where you're judged for doing something so considerate. I'm sorry you have to put up with their shit.

I'm not even sick most of the time. I just don't want COVID again even though I'm super vaccinated and only had one very mild case. I still want to take that precaution. It affects nobody but me and I'm always surprised how indignant the people who have said something to me are over it. But at least most people leave me alone, apparently in conservative US states they'll scream at you and threaten you from their car windows.

It's a symbol to these people. They don't even think about its usefulness, because they were told that they have no use.

So to them they see a person wearing a mask as an instant enemy.

Just pull down the mask and full-throat cough in their direction, they'll get the message

I support the thought, but don't actually do this. Those assholes will call the cops on you and absolutely try to press charges against you.

What did he say? I can't imagine any sort of bitching that wouldn't end up with me laughing at them

[–] BonesOfTheMoon 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

He just looked really surprised and I walked off. Then a very nice gentleman complimented me on my Drive By Truckers shirt and we talked about them for a bit.

So he didn't bitch at you, just gave you a look?

[–] BonesOfTheMoon 1 points 4 days ago

He might have muttered something but I actually have strep and plugged ears so I didn't catch it.

It has been depressing to realize that if the zombie apocalypse ever comes, a significant portion of the population will either ignore it or actively try to become infected just because they don’t like being told what to do.

In the past I always thought the characters in zombie movies were always portrayed as too dumb. After covid hit, I realized that they were portrayed as too smart.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

In those movies, the dumb ones are already shuffling about the street.

When I was a teenager, the discussion was always "would you survive the first wave," and my friends and I were never sure if we would or not. We didn't realize the bar for that was whether or not you would run towards the zombies..

As scary as the lockdown was, it was an interesting year of protests for BLM and labor movements. Once everyone had a lot of time on their hands, they started to take action on import topics.

Now I feel like most people are back to the grind, and as a whole we don't have the time to quickly make changes we want to see

I fucking loved the lockdown. Masks? No more faking facial expressions. Social Distancing? I didn't have to pretend to care about people or make small talk. "Working" from home? So simple and I got to spend a year home with my new baby.

It was glorious and I miss it.

Maybe the owning class wants everyone to be overworked, because it keeps the people from getting political

A plot point in Brave New World, although as dystopias go it's a surprisingly kind one

I'm still burning through my massive pile of masks and I have noticeably been sick less. Maybe it was not a bad idea?

[–] Shard 45 points 4 days ago

No it was not a bad idea my good sir.

We actually managed to drive one of the strains of the flu virus to become extinct in the wild.

If the future is anything like CDDA then I will be thriving. I'll be scavenging solar panels while rocking a Linux t shirt and a wizard hat

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

I put on my robe and Linux hat

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Just like the simulations

[–] spankmonkey 13 points 4 days ago

That nose crushing mask must be painful!

[–] hOrni 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This joke again. Honestly it worked best in text form.
