Summary

Amazon workers at its first unionized warehouse in Staten Island, NY, have authorized a strike, accusing the company of refusing to recognize their union or negotiate a contract nearly three years after their union victory.

Represented by the Teamsters, 5,500 workers demand contract negotiations by Sunday, warning of a potential work stoppage.

Amazon, which has appealed the union certification, claims the Teamsters have coerced workers, accusations the union denies.

Workers seek $30/hour minimum pay and stronger safety protections.

A second Amazon facility in Queens has also authorized a strike.

Good luck! Your predecessors did it and you can too!

If Amazon won't recognize the union then this is the natural next step. The whole country will be watching this. If the union wins, that'll be huge ✊

If the government supports the workers, we might survive. If they stay silent, it's guaranteed Trump will come in and try to squash unions.

Anything to hurt the billionaire class is a good thing

"Amazon, which has appealed the union certification, claims the Teamsters have coerced workers, accusations the union denies."

Oh this is so stupid. My parents even fall for this shit. Any "coercing" going on is the workers pointing out that without the union things won't improve, and likely get worse.

The 2028 totally-not-an-organizef-general-strike is desperately necessary.

My state has a proud union history. There were literal battles fought. Workers died here for their rights. Now most people here hate unions. Propaganda is unbelievably strong.

Can Amazon weather this by fulfilling orders from other warehouses, till the new anti-labor NLRB is in place?

Is this why the previous leader wanted to organize other warehouses before striking?

It’s no longer fire season, so it’s safe.

I want these people to win and show the rest of the nation how organizing helps. Don't let them divide us.
