show transcriptscreenshot of two comic panels by murderofsomeone on tumblr. first panel: three mostly featureless cartoon characters drawn on microsoft paint. one is strapped to an operating table while an evil death laser charges at them with the words "evil death laser" written on it. in the middle one of the characters looks over to the guy on the table shrugging while the third guy is pulling the lever to the evil death laser. the middle character's dialogue reads: "I dunno buddy this seems like a complicated issue and I don't wanna take sides or anything". second panel: the position of the three characters is exactly the same as the previous image, only the other two characters speak as well. the first character's dialogue reads: "he is trying to kill me" the third character's dialogue reads: "I am trying to kill them" and the middle character's dialogue reads: "I think it's more nuanced than that". below the screenshots it reads “my new comic called neutral ass bitch”

I don’t know. The egg prices are high though.

Common argument among the alt right and right-extremist for voting for fascists: but food expensive, old party bad

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I agr*e, grand old party bad

this is not about the USA's GOP - i'd agree with that sentiment.
This was more about the up and coming, younger right-extremist parties rising across europe lately.

I'm sure we can find a middle ground, not wanting to die is selfish

Just one little zap, ya know?

[–] SandmanXC 31 points 2 months ago

It obviously is more nuanced than that, but the nuances don't make it any better.

if he was truly neutral he would take the guys word this guy is a "skeptical ass bitch"

That guy strapped to the death machine crossed a red light once!

Worse, he once made an indecent remark within earshot of an intern.

So true, sometimes you do have to take a side.

I , of course, choose the side of strapping the guy who says it's nuanced, at the place of the guy who was strapped.

If you are not willing to hear the marginalised —
Then nuance kills;
Taking a side saves lives.

Yeesh. I mean, chronically neutral people are fucking garbage, we can all agree. But the lack of nuance in political discourse and in the actual understanding and worldviews of seemingly everybody is a massive problem. People not even grasping that there can be nuance on issues is incredibly devastating to political discourse. Social media is definitely a big culprit, but the “catchphrase politics” era was most definitely part and party to this too.

Bring back nuance 2025

the neutral character in the comic is being directly told what the laser operator's goal is by the laser operator. they use nuance as an excuse to not pick a side.
this isn't about nuance being bad it's about neutrality towards oppression being effectively identical to oppression.

But what if we used even more power?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Something like a 10^44 Watts laser, for example?

[–] WagnasT 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That might be enough to ~~kill him~~ make space spontaneously opaque!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Someone gonna post the relevant xkcd?

[–] Stibitzki 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think all three are bad.

I'm not going to elaborate.

Furtherance is futile. We will add your distinct contrarianism to our own.

What makes a man turn neutral, Kif?

Where did the angels that refused to choose sides end up according to the Christian Bible?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Which Christian Bible ? Greek Orthodox ? The Catholic Vulgate ? The NIV ? The Ethiopian Orthodoxy ? The Jefferson Bible ?

It is a bit more ... complicated than that.
