It's HP... No hope.

Oh, and it's a tad bent.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Install debian it runs on even the lowest resources

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If Debian is too heavy, try puppy Linux for even lower resource usage and because puppies are cute.

Have you tried ironing out the wrinkles?

[–] Anticorp 12 points 2 months ago

Try some WD-40

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Have you tried forcing an unexpected reboot?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

The most important part is making sure the computer doesn't see it coming so it's truly unexpected

[–] Railing5132 5 points 2 months ago

"helloo, I.T." "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?"

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

I've seen Linux fix worse cases.

Ever try mint?

[–] disguy_ovahea 10 points 2 months ago

I was issued an Elitebook for work. This is truly the best case scenario

[–] frigidaphelion 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

How much force is required to do that to a *laptop? Car accident level?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

not a lot if it doesn't have a metal frame inside

[–] quinkin 6 points 2 months ago

Iron, no steam.

[–] ikidd 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

  • Try to sell it as art

  • Make a shitton of cash

  • Buy a new laptop and still have a shitton of cash

(maybe remove SSDs and HDDs before step 1 if those are still in tact and depending on what kind of information was stored on the device)

Just grab a mallet amd hammer it flat again

[–] Coreidan 5 points 2 months ago

Have you tried turning it off and then on again?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Just wipe it down with a damp cloth (not dripping, just damp). It'll be as good as new.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

remove snapd

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Well, first, you want to get a hammer. Make sure you're comfortable with the weight, you're gonna be doing a lot of swinging.

Next, you'll want this hunk of metal called a dolly.

Now, if you're someone without experience in a body shop, I'd recommend searching "Dolly dent removal methods", watch some tutorials.

If you're familiar already, you know what comes next. Decide if you're going on or off, and beat the shit out of it until the dents come out.

[–] thesohoriots 3 points 2 months ago

A little distilled white vinegar, a lint-free cloth, and some elbow grease.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

That’s what you get for not upgrading to 11

I don't know, what's wrong with it?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

if it boots up, ram, storage, video adapter, cpu, and usb slot is intact then propably yes

[–] Psythik 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Disassemble entirely, hammer shell back into shape. If shell can't be salvaged, buy a mid tower and a CPU cooler. Desolder CPU, GPU, and RAM. Disconnect SSD and fans. Resolder chips back onto new motherboard. Replace display, keyboard, and touchpad. Put everything else back together.

Laptop fixed/laptop is now desktop.
