Closest thing is Mother's Miak! (I think that was what he misread it as on the Halloween movie)

He reminded me of my Dad growing up.

who the hell is this character that apparently only I haven't heard of???

there is straight up not enough info here to Google it and the comments aren't helping.

[–] JigglySackles 3 points 2 days ago

Jim Varney playing the lovable jerk Ernest. Ernest goes to camp, Ernest saves Xmas, and Ernest Scared Stupid are my 3 favorite classic Ernest movies. Good fun slapstick comedy with a goof ball main character. Jim Varney is an excellent actor all around and one of those that was definitely taken too soon. Anyways, fun series to watch, especially if you have kids or like slapstick and goofiness.

Maybe I can clear a few things up:

There once was a man named Worrell-Ernest P. Worrell!

Even as a lad he was sensitive and caring

As cunning as a fox and as slippery as a herring

Whimsical and Mellow- A hale and hearty fellow

Not formal... Not normal!

There once was a man named Worrell-Ernest P. Worrell!

He's kindly as a saint but he'll never shirk a battle

To villains everywhere he's a burr beneath the saddle

He's nimble quick and brawny-His skin is smooth and tawny

Not mealy... Not really!

Ah ah ah ah! See the lightning fill the sky!

Ah ah ah ah! See the angry tide!

See the blinding rain come down 'Oh where is a hero now?' The children cried

He's inside... He went inside!

There once was a man named Worrell-Ernest P. Worrell

The hero of today is the legend of tomorrow

And whosoever crosses him shall live their life in sorrow

For lo the bridges burneth

That they may not returneth

To learneth... from Erneth!

There once was a man named Worrell-Ernest P. Worrell!

Let's celebrate this champion, this paragon of virtue

And should you be his foe, he'll be sorry if he hurts you

To some he's just a man but to others he's a beacon!

He sends his mother cash and he calls her every weekend!

He's punctual, he's affable, he's never quick to quarrel

He's moral... He's Ernest P. Worrell!

damn, i was thinking it had to be newer it's based on how this picture looked.

i was born in 1995. it's usually surprisingly easy to tell when things are before my time just by looking at them. camera technology was rapidly changing in that era. this one is right on the edge. it's not impossible that i saw some of that as a toddler, but i certainly don't remember it.

I don't want to look it up, because I don't want to disappointed, but I truly hope there's someone out there who makes Mr. Rogers Comics full time. Just churning out inspirational, wholesome, wonderful content in memory of an incredible person

[–] PunnyName 10 points 3 days ago

Why you make me cry? Every time I see this damned comic.

Odin was actually surprisingly woke about whitewashing, he gets smote.

"Hey Verne! Found a perfectly good hammer for free downtown where all that fighting was happening! Now we can finally put the finishing touches on those cabinets in your kitchen, know-what-I-mean?"

We'll never have to develop the Voight-Kampf test...

If someone watches Ernest goes to Camp and doesn't shed a tear they're a fucking Terminator

In one of the numerous Marvel/DC crossovers both Superman and Wonder Woman were able to lift Mjolnir.

[–] toynbee 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I only have a vague memory of this because it was a single comment I read on TV Tropes a decade or more ago, but weren't some or all of the requirements lifted to allow that? IIRC, Superman wouldn't have met the requirements because of a "lack of a warrior's spirit." No idea regarding Wonder Woman.

[–] uid0gid0 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The first time it happened, there was a thing about Odin making an exception for Kal-El, but that has since been retconned. I don't recall Wonder Woman needing any exceptions, but she also didn't use it in her flight with Storm, as it wouldn't have been fair.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

but she also didn't use it in her flight with Storm, as it wouldn't have been fair.

Did the DC writers pen that one? Storm is an omega level mutant. Wonder woman is part of the DC Trinity, but it's hard to punch hurricanes that land on top of you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Wonder Woman is either a demigod with blessings to exceed that of most Olympians or a full goddess and can match most of Superman's feats of strength and speed.

Even if Storm could condense hurricane forces into something the size of her fist and have some form of physical resistance she'd still be killed by something moving at near light speed.

Or she'd get sucked into the Invisible Jet's turbines.

Storm's Omega-status is due to her global weather control, not personal combat power. Power over a large scale, but not necessarily the small one.

That all said, it's comics, and speed never gets the respect it's due.

[–] uid0gid0 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Who won each battle was determined by fan voting prior to the publish date. This was also back in 1996 before Diana got written to be basically immune to the elements and Storm knocked her out with lightning.

[–] toynbee 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Did Wolverine bribe Lobo to take a fall? I think I read that in the same trope binge.

[–] uid0gid0 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If I recall, their fight was largely off-screen just at the end Logan was smoking a cigar in a demolished bar.

[–] toynbee 1 points 2 days ago

The answer is appreciated, root:root.
