She was invited to meet with the principal, who De Meyer says told her the school was up to code.

"Im sorry you're having trouble, but understand that we are doing the legal bare minimum to help you people out"

"We're already compliant with the absolute minimum. What more do you people want?"

Edit: ignore this post, I have no idea what Canada's disability law is like

She certainly learned a lot about art activism, more than was intended by the course.

That principal is a bag of dicks.

Only activism approved by the administration is allowed.

TBF, if you take the Appropriate Good class you can earn a "Honored speaker" status where you the the opportunity to apply for the chance to be approved to talk for up to 4 minutes to an "action board" that meets annually on odd numbered years if the moon is waxing on the 15th.

"We are reviewing our approach to handling student speeches and written statements at public events," he continued. "We acknowledge that altering Ms. De Meyerโ€™s speech may have compromised out commitment to open dialogue.โ€

Classic stuff. โ€œWe have been caught not doing anything close to our โ€˜commitmentโ€™ and now we promise to change.โ€ Just be honest and say you donโ€™t have open dialogue and you were lying the whole time.

I guarantee the next student gets the same treatment if it is a different situation.

I kinda hoped that High Schools had improved in the past 20 years. Guess not.

I lived in Abbotsford for a while. They have a KKK problem and the churches on every corner throw book burnings. Plus, organized crime drug wars! For a time it was the murder capital in Canada. It looks like a small, boring suburban town but it is a horrible place. The Christian right have all the political power and this is the result.

Having gone though SD36, it's not surprising how shit other school districts are too. Administration are hypocritical pieces of shit who are just there to create excuses and hide problems

compromised our commitment

That's called breaking a promise. A commitment is a promise. Not fulfilling it is breaking it. You fucking broke a promise because you were afraid to deal with the truth, you faithless cowards. Then, when found out, you tried to squirm instead of actually living the open dialogue.

Admit your mistake, openly and without weasel words, then work to fix it and live up to the commitment you gave. Set an example not in the negative, but in the positive: We all fuck up some time. What matters is setting it right.
