Stardew Valley is a behemoth

My wife and I are actually considering buying steam decks for both of us because the console port for the new update is taking forever.... Why didn't they have the steam deck in 2020 so we could have stayed on our PC saved instead of putting hundreds of hours into Switch saves

Obviously it takes some effort, but if you have an original switch you can pull your save files off of it through jailbreaking tools. I've migrated most of my indie game saves over to my Deck.

I've looked into it and I believe my switch is still one of the easy to jailbreak models. My wife has a lite (and the save files) but I never really looked into how to jailbreak those. The stardew save editors look pretty simple from some research and I will probably attempt to extract our farms if we get decks.

Edit: Modded switches can't go on Nintendo Online correct? If not, buddy of mine has ones so maybe use that and restore from cloud saves and extract, unless that leads to account flagging/deletion.

So for mine, all I needed was an extra MicroSD card and a plastic jumper insert for booting into dev mode.

I can boot into "hacked mode", extract save files, and then shut down, remove the MicroSD, and go right back to normal mode.

Are you me? I've been thinking of trading my Switch for one. Stardew is easily my most played game on it.

It's my main gaming device. I love the thing, and if you take the time to really understand and use the massive amount of control and gyro options it's crazy how good the controls can be for so many different games. Way better than any console, and often nicer than keyboard/mouse. The borderlands games with gyro aiming is the best way to play, hands down. I've also heard high praise on some rts strategy builder games with gyro mouse functions. A genre I didn't think would work well at all without a keyboard and mouse.

We probably put 250 hours in on PC and I think I'm close to 200 on switch. I think my wife just broke 600 on her switch saves so we have some attachments to those farms, but looking into exporting them if we get a deck. Tbh she misses mods at this point after 100% both routes and working on some self imposed restriction farms.

Shit yeah it is. I'm nearing the end of my latest playthrough. I probably only have another 40 hours to go!

I bought hades 2 last week and already have almost 30 hours. Those games have the most satisfying difficulty curve. The first time you fight a boss it’s overwhelming and maybe even feels unfair, but smash cut 10 tries later where you’re nailing a no-hit and thinking “hey maybe this boss needs a buff actually”

And the presence of “god mode” means I can recommend it to literally anyone, regardless of how apt they are for ARPGs!

And a new update today, including art for some placeholders!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I encountered a certain npc with placeholder art without realizing it, and I just thought they were going for a really bold character arc.

Then I saw a second one and it made a lot more sense lmao

[–] RebekahWSD 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I sincerely hope they never show us what the npc you can meet in realm 2 looks like. Like they're always under the robe!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

that’s the one

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I bought Vampire Survivors two weeks ago and I have almost 40 hours, all on Steam Deck. It's the most fun I've had gaming in a long time. Simple gameplay loop with constant action and so many possible permutations of characters, stages, and power ups! I have ~ 2/3 of the unlocks and achievements so far.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

That was the first thing I played when I got my deck! My “recently played” at the time was all multiplayer FPS games and other shit that doesn’t play well with controllers. I figured “shit, at least I can get a feel for the device” and then blasted like 8 straight hours of it that first day hahahah

I'm surprised that's still in the most played games. Also Slay the Spire. They're top quality games and I still play them. Just surprised there's a long term wider audience.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

They're the first 2 thing I install on any device I get. Idk how I'm not tired of Isaac after starting right before Wotl dropped on the flash version.

The potential for game breaking synergies and relative simplicity of movement/shooting in 4 cardinal directions makes for pretty fantastic gameplay.

BoI has taken a bit more of a back seat in my library since I discovered Enter the Gungeon.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Gungeon is one I need to get back to. I really never clicked for me after hours of gameplay, but it has everything I'm looking for in a game. Kinda the same with Nuclear Throne, but I put a lot more time into that one.

Streets of Rogue was the other top down roguelike shooter I fell in love with. So many weird ways to progress in that game.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Streets of Rogue was a laugh, but it didn't stick the way Gungeon did.

It took me months of play to finish my first Gungeon run. But once I beat a run, it became routine that pretty much every run got finished successfully. Although the extra bosses are really difficult, I didn't get to grips with those.

I had written geberal detailed tips for Gungeon back in the day....but that's all lost now since I scrubbed everything I had ever submitted to Reddit.

Amazing replayability

I love it how fallout came back in fashion. even new vegas on the top list

[–] QuikxSpec 3 points 6 months ago

It’s great the people who watch the show see how well they did satire.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

New Vegas is still the best one to replay these days IMO.

Skyrim still relevant 13 years later

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

New Vegas is up there too, at 14 years later.

[–] JoshuaSlowpoke777 7 points 6 months ago

Hades II tops the list so hard, it even brought the previous game up with it!
