Religion is perfect for making normal people act like a bunch of sociopaths.

[–] Art3sian 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

” Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.”

[–] orphiebaby 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You gotta source that quote, fam. I wanna know ^^

Lucius Annaeus Seneca. All it took was copying the line into Google. I'm surprised how often people forget that they can do this.

[–] orphiebaby 7 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but have you tried Googling that "quote" supposedly from Madonna?

[–] Art3sian 5 points 1 year ago

I was hoping you guys might think I was clever enough to come up with it.

Religion is exploited by actual sociopaths to justify their behavior.

Religion is exploited by actual sociopaths to justify their behavior.

(most forms of) Religion is constructed to be exploited by actual sociopaths to justify their behavior.

"With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion."

I tried to come up with a more palatable comment, and all I can think of to say is "fuck these stupid jackasses".

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago

Naw, that about sums it up. It's depressing and pathetic.

[–] xc2215x 4 points 1 year ago

It works for me.

Can you imagine your purpose in life being "the guy who makes sure people's scarves are good enough"?

[–] FlyingSquid 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh they salivate for it. Some people will jump at any chance to be a fascist.

“Oh no the Ferengi don’t want to stop the exploitation. We want to become the exploiters!”

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can you imagine your purpose in life being “the guy who makes sure people’s scarves are good enough”?

A more accurate interpretation: Can you imaginer your purpose in life being the guy who directly enforces oppression of women?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

They get off of the idea.

Does this mean all of the protests from a few months back are done?

[–] billiam0202 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're probably banking on protesters not being able to use Twitter to organize.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If only there was a way to have Twitter like features spread across hundreds if not thousands of independently owned servers that could join together in a sort of union or federation, if you will, as they see fit for their purpose. Oh well, I guess I can dream.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Future generations are laughing it up.

Centralized services like twitter and reddit are going to go the way of Sears.

[–] Motavader 15 points 1 year ago

It's got to be hard to maintain the momentum once the government decides they're fine with murdering the protesters. The Iranian government also let women go without headscarves for this long, I imagine as a way to let the temperature cool. They never intended to repeal the law, only let the protests disperse letting the protesters think they'd won that small concession.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yep. Nothing of value was accomplished, unfortunately.

I guess reasoning with your abusers wasn't the best course of action.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Morality police " rapists and co come up with the fanciest names for themselves.

"morality" 🤣😂😭

[–] _cerpin_taxt_ 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hopefully they protest even harder now, but we'll see.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In the end, they could be executed. It won't be easy.

[–] _cerpin_taxt_ 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Isn't that why the protests started in the first place? A girl was beat to death by them? I don't see what they've got to lose.

Religion.what a fucking joke.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

I do wish the women of Iran the best. I hope they still have the will to fight.

[–] afraid_of_zombies 14 points 1 year ago (5 children)

As I said months ago. In a war between the diet version of something and the pure version, the diet one always loses.

It wasnt about a secular government and freedom to not worship, it was about the rules being relaxed a bit. You don't fight to the death for showing your hair you fight to the death for sky-daddy.

Until they are willing to burn korans they will continue to live in a theocratic state.

Woman, Life, Freedom

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dumb question, but the headscarf's purpose is to cover the women's hair, right? So what if all protesting women go bald to piss the religious guys off, would that work?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I guarantee you, they'll think it's a dumb question because the abusers will just attack any women who shaves her head. They don't actually care.

It will take solidarity among the Iranian people or outside intervention to fix these problems. Unfortunately, a lot of Iranian women are also rewarding the men who do this with sex.

[–] electrogamerman 2 points 1 year ago

And that's what religion does.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

'Morality police' sounds like a mockery, not the actual name they'd call themselves 😂

[–] rivalary 2 points 1 year ago

My guess is that it's a translation

[–] ZombieZookeeper 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Since Iranian men can't control themselves, women have to cover up.

[–] GeoGio7 14 points 1 year ago

A lot of the protesters were also men. Several of them had been shot and killed

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Blame the oppressive government and religion, not the people. They're the victims.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Have they tried a Lysistrata yet?

[–] XaeroDegreaz 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I doubt it would work; unfortunately it seems that rape is pretty common over there.
