For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

Article say it’s down 23% in the US and 15% globally. I’m surprised that there wasn’t a bigger drop in usage. Maybe there are more bots propping up the numbers?

There's a lot of people who just refuse to leave. They'll complain and make fun of Musk, but they just can't pull the trigger and leave. It's the and for reddit and a lot of other sites as well.

Definitely lots of bots. Which, of course, Elon said he would get rid of once he took over.

[–] Tyfud 11 points 9 months ago

Except once he took over, he realized that the bots are part of the business and profit model of the service so he figured out enough to shut his idiot mouth. Which is saying something really.

"Musk did that on purpose to save money on servers and bandwidth."

“He’s just weeding out brown people and large advertisers

You jest, but I can somehow guarantee that Musk's response will be in the line of "We didn't want those people anyway."

It seems low, unless you remove all the bot accounts from the equation and then it's probably closer to 30%

Musk would be doing much better as a billionaire if he just kept his mouth shut.

And not do boneheaded moves like rebranding Twitter to X.

Let's take a household name that most companies would kill for to get that sort of everyday recognition and change it to the most generic shit ever and get rid of the Tweety bird. Marketing disaster.

He could just retire and live a life of luxury. But he craves power as well as money.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It's true he craves power but more than anything he craves validation that he's a cool smart dude, which he really isn't.

[–] FlyingSquid 4 points 9 months ago

Very true. He wants people to love him and anyone who doesn't is scum. Trump is the exact same way.

I went on there yesterday and it felt like falling down a fascist rabbit hole. It's a completely different site.

My personal theory is that if he publicly appeals to right wing ideology more people overall will buy his cars lol. The Twitter shit is just piece of that.

If it gets the right to embrace electric vehicles, that's a good thing, right?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Remember that electric cars were invented to save the car industry; not the planet.

[–] RGB3x3 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, agreed. Public transit and more environmentally- and pedestrian-friendly city design are the real solutions. Nobody should need a car to live.

But progress is progress.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 9 months ago

If you live in an urban environment a car should be an inconvenience not a necessity. Maybe, better late than never, we’re starting to see some baby steps in this direction.

I deleted my account, but then I made a junk account to follow links there when someone says "check this out". There are probably a lot of people like me who just follow links, troll a couple of blue-checks, and then close it.

Use of Twitter in the US has slumped by more than a fifth since Elon Muskbought the site and rebranded it to X, according to data from app-monitoring company Sensor Tower.

BREAKING NEWS: ‘Sensor Tower’ sued by Elon Musk for lies, slander, and being a “woke” enemy of free speech.
