i don't know if it's me getting old or if gen z/α are getting desperate for memes. it's not funny, interesting or communicating anything. i thought hawk tuah was the jumping the shark moment but Jesus this is even worse.

Really? We all celebrated a dancing banana when we were their age. The Internet is a strange and wonderful place.

If you were 42 when the dancing banana was popular, then you're old as fuuuuuuuuuuuccck.

Yeah but I am and I made this meme.

[–] Maggoty 6 points 3 months ago

So it's not even a Gen Z meme then. Lol that's hilarious.

well there was some effort there, and the internet was new. this is like "why did the chicken cross the road" becoming the most popular joke.

New generation isn't as good as old generation, a tale as old as time. If our ancient forebears ever come back we'll all be drooling idiots compared to them.

I'm not a subscriber to juvenoia; I concede that possibly some of the things I don't understand are due my own distance from the youth and their culture, and that's fine...

It's just that here it seems like I'm not really missing anything. it's just lame and people are clingimg random shit thinking it's funny just because it feels like an inside joke.

or in the case of hawk tuah, a very mundane blonde woman making a mundane sexual reference a bit out of the ordinary... it's a bit like saying "nice" to any mention of 69 except without any hint of the irony.

We're all just looking for some kind of escape. Sometimes it's the Pirates of Penzance and sometimes it's cheering for the orb.

What is your idea of a good meme so we have a frame of reference to compare to

[–] pyre 4 points 3 months ago

one that feels naturally evolved rather than forced. or one that has literally any meaning or purpose.

I'm solidly a millennial and I think it's hilarious. I also enjoy Smiling Friends so maybe I just like bizarre humor.

I feel like it has weird millennial humour vibes to it. I hate it.
