Today's game is a modded Minecraft server. After months of trial and error (and maybe just a little procrastination), I finally got it set up. This thing has Ice and Fire, ICBMs to deal with Ice and Fire, Create, Thermal Dynamics, TWO Space Mods (Mostly because I accidentally added a second one and I can't figure out which mods are the space mods), and a ton more. It's a bit of a kitchen sink modpack, but it's mostly for me and my friends to play on. So as long as everyone is having fun, then that's okay.

The ice pillar in the screenshot is where I spawned. Nearby, there were 3 ice and fire dragons, so I immediately had to book it after they saw me. After a while of running, I came across an abandoned mine colony village taken over by a dragon I nicknamed Smaug, as it seemed appropriate for him having taken over a city. Unfortunately for Smaug, he was stuck in a rock, and I had the ability for ice and fire dragons to destroy blocks turned off. (Coming home to find your base demolished by a dragon you didn't know was there can turn out to be not fun.)

After a while, I came across an Ice Tower (major upgrade from the Ice Pillar) and decided to build my home there. We have large biomes on because we have Create Steam and Rails on here and thought it would be fun to do our own little nation thing to encourage us all to set up rail systems and collaborate on things for fun. (Mine colonies and Minecraft Comes Alive will help sell the "nation" part.)

After a few hours of mining, I ended up starting to build a café terrace thing on the top of a mountain. I got the terrace part done, but the café will come later.

I also got a Cobblestone generator with a Water Wheel Setup, so I'm leaving it running while I sleep. Here's the little hole I made to AFK in while letting it run:

So, looks like NZXT are looking to rip off gamers with their computer "subscription" service.

Found this to be a good interview with the developer.

Ireland crossed its threshold, meaning the minimum of 7 countries in the EU have now done so. At approximately 395k total people signed, it is currently not on pace to reach 1M by July 31st without a signal boost from someone with a lot of followers.

The 9800X3D just came out, so I'm looking to upgrade my 2017 PC to join the modern era, which means I'm waiting to play Baldurs Gate 3 (runs, but not ideal), Dead Space Remake (poorly optimised), Space Marine 2, Cyberpunk, Metaphor etc when I build my new rig in a couple of months.

In the meantime, I've finished some indies like Rise of the Golden Idol, first run of Satisfactory, did the Elden Ring DLC.

Then, there's the gap from now till the next RGG game and Monster Hunter, which would really scratch that action, open world itch.

Any recommendations for action games that feels like you're doing some exploration? Trying to get into a flow state. I may actually take a break and go read a book instead.

Some more of Silent Hill 2's New Game+. Just a disclaimer, but some of these screenshots I messed with the light levels of because they were too dark to see anything (such as the main one). Personally, to me, the presentation of the screenshot is just as important as the screenshot is itself. But just a heads up that some of these are not how they'd look in-game (though I try to avoid it unless I feel it's necessary).

This one I took during the first encounter of Pyramid Head. I no-clipped onto the other side of the bars and took it. I also got a second shot I liked from the other side of the bars. I did it from a distance as I felt it added a menacing vibe to it, like he was watching from a distance, but I think I overdid it from too far as I feel you have to squint to really see it and I think I did the light levels wrong so it didn't really help it's visibility. I think I made the colors too vibrant on accident too so it really killed the gloomy atmosphere.

There was also this screenshot I took of the balcony in the apartment complex. I like the way the fog melts with the shadows under the other balconies.

I wanted to also mention how cathartic the chainsaw is to use. After being terrorized by the enemies for the entire game, it's amusing to basically have James be mowing them down in one strike lol. I think he's become the horror villain. I also am doing a Melee and Radioless run for those sweet, sweet achievements. Honestly, with the chainsaw, I'm not too worried about Melee only, but with the Radio off, I honestly feel like it's become easier to fight enemies than with. I can usually pick up on their sounds unique before they see me, so instead of just static, I can hear them instead.

Which games blow your mind, but only if you know nothing about them in advance?

Best examples I can think of are:

  • Outer Wilds
  • Doki Doki Literature Club
  • The Stanley Parable

What are yours?

(please no spoilers)

Used to spend most of my days playing live service games that required a huge amount of time, or big AAA titles that are critically acclaimed. For example, Fallout 4/76, Battlefield 2042, rainbow six, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Skyrim, Destiny 2, OverWatch.... Basically any really big game that you would find on the top 20 of steam or by player count, I would spend a huge amount of time playing that. But I got pretty bored of all these really big games having overplayed them so much, and now I have no idea what to play anymore...

So I'll spend a few hours playing something, and then jump to another game and then another game and none of them give me any Joy. For example, playing 3 hours of 7 Days to Die, 10 hours of No Man's Sky, 5 hours of stardew Valley, play fortnite with a friend for 2 hours, login to World of Warcraft and get bored Within a day or two. Tried going back to Battlefield 2042 because it saw a small uptick of players....

Honestly have no idea what to play anymore. So I just bounce around trying to look for something that'll bring me some joy and don't get much luck

I started Silent Hill 2's New Game+ today. I plan since i now know how everything will go it should be much quicker. I think this time i want to go for the rebirth ending. I also found out the Photo Mode mod exists which has made my day. I intend to use this to take way better screenshots. Here's one of the Backseat of James' car. If anyone has seen discussions on other people using a free cam mode lately then you know what's under the blanket. Apparently the outline filter makes it even more obvious.

I also got to explore some more of my favorite with the mod: Landscape shots. Here's one i took of the road to Silent Hill:

I also took this shot of the house right after the first encounter. The way the lighting works on it is really pretty, though the shutters were tweaking out on my end:

And then finally i tried to recreate one of the glimpses of the past using the Camera Mode for fun. I have very vivid memories of this one specifically from the OG because i struggled with it at first (and it also scared the piss out of me). It's still one of my favorite memories of the original game though.

My sincerest apologies in advance to the moderators of /c/games if the below is not suitable for the community. This is extremely loosely related to gaming but concerns a significant player in the industry.

On the morning of Monday, 2024 11 25, I received a text message from my bank notifying me of a potentially fraudulent transaction of $0.00. This resembled some kind of a service test charge.

I was amused to see this was sufficient to trigger such a response from my bank. My account had been paused and my card transactions were halted as a result, though I'm grateful for their diligence.

Looking at the message, it appears to have been from Blizzard Entertainment:

The first time I dealt with them as a customer was around 2016 or 2017. Overwatch was on sale and my friends urged me to pick it up. It wasn't my sort of thing and I quickly put it back down.

I was stupid enough to buy Destiny 2 later on in 2017. The long-timers (or most likely, former players) amongst you may recall that D2 was only available through BattleNet on PC. I think they moved away to Steam a couple years later after parting ways with Activision, and I linked my Steam account to complete the transfer around this time.

Fast-forward to October 2019 and the "Blitzchung controversy". I don't wish to expand on the topic here. I didn't agree with Blizzard's actions around that event, nor did I have any particular reason to retain my online account with them, so I decided to delete it in some extremely minor form of protest.

It seems that a significant number of account holders thought of doing the same thing, as Blizzard started to demand some form of government photo ID to proceed.

I can only presume they employed this tactic as some sort of deterrent, though I was fairly sure it couldn't legally be enforced; what business did they have to ask this of me? They've never needed my drivers license or passport photo before?

After a lengthy back and forth with their support agents, I decided to send them a GDPR data erasure request instead. They immediately honoured my request and notified me that my account and all associated PII would be removed from their systems.

Just over five years later, and I'm randomly greeted with this fraud alert. Mondays are particularly busy for me, as I'm sure they are for many of you. I cursed as I glanced at phone that morning. I don't need more stuff to deal with.

I immediately called my bank and rectified the situation, though I wanted to understand how this happened to begin with. Whilst I was still on the phone to them, I confirmed that:

  • My last payment to Blizzard Entertainment was in 2017 (2 years prior to my GDPR data erasure request)
  • The attempted transaction on Monday originated from Irvine, US (location of their HQ - it wasn't someone using my card details)

I decided to write to Blizzard's customer support. They appear to have a section dedicated to unauthorised payments. My endeavours were unsuccessful.

After explaining all of the above, I pressed them on several key points:

  • What is the purpose of this charge and why did this happen?
  • What data are you retaining on me?
  • Has another user attempted to use my payment information (at this point, I've no reason to suspect my payment info has been compromised)
  • What will you do to prevent this happening again?

I wasn't satisfied with the first response, so I tried again later on.

Check if you have an active World of Warcraft subscription

Couldn't you folks have done that?

Check your recent purchases in your Transaction History

(I had already explained that I had done this as part of my initial query to them)

Make sure that you are logged in to the correct Blizzard account

"An extensive research" to be sure

All of these questions were completely sidestepped. I began to suspect that these were bot generated or generic, canned responses.

If you are indeed real people, and you somehow stumble upon this post, please know that I'm sorry to call you out, and I know you're dealing with my case using the resources you have available.

So why am I mentioning any of this here?

I would love to know if any of you took the same action as I did back in 2019:

  • Did you attempt to close your account following the HK tournament controversy?
  • Did you face the same level of resistance as I did?
  • Did you follow up with a data erasure request?
  • Do you have any reason to suspect that Blizzard are still retaining data on you in 2024?

An associate of mine has pointed out that they may have a legal obligation to retain some records despite my request for data erasure. The question is, why was this service test charge placed?

Thank you for reading through my ramblings.

Have a cosy one.

This game is about a scientist uses a unique teleportation instrument to escape an ancient biomechanical world filled with imaginative technology, deadly traps, and hidden secrets.

Highly recommend watching the trailer for this game.

Launching Q1 of 2025.

It's beyond insane to me that a $70 "AAAA" game (kidding, it's AAA) dips down to the absurd price of $5. I've never seen anything like it. Wish the entire Sims 4 "collection" if you can call it that was $5 total, would be incredible, or Starfield.

I went ahead and bought a bunch of indie games, picked up Darkchaser, Oxygen Not Included, and UFO50, and also grabbed Cities: Skylines. Got used to the launch prices of some AAA games, buying these discounted low-priced games really doesn't hurt much.
