That but it was also just a depiction closer to reality: for instance famine and starvation were a common theme in Grimm's collection of tales (Hänsel & Gretel, the star money, etc). But in the modern world [industrialized west] we know longer have a direct cultural experience of it.

Similarly gone down have:

  • corporal punishment, mutilation (the girl without hands, Cinderella)
  • indentured servitude, slavery (Rumpelstilzchen)
  • cannibalism (Hänsel & Gretel); note that this in the context of a famine
  • austerity at old age (the Bremen town musicians)
  • despots abusing their power (Snow White)
  • maternal death, parental absence (Cinderella, Snow White)
  • child labor (Cinderella, Mother Hulda)

If I recall historia correctly the use "of the people" root to refer to a distinction language can be traced back to Christian missionaries and clergimen of medieval times who needed to translate religious teachings from latin to the common tongue.

Unfortunately this just amounts to symbolic politics:

  • anyone seriously willing to hurt others will ignore it or find ways around it
  • the general public is mildly inconvenienced by any measures to enforce/control it

Na, names are about pronunciation (how you call someone). Written letters are an approximation of that. You can't pronounce a newline, so there's that.

You're on to something but I doubt it's the syllables. Rather it seems about phonetic ambiguity.

"twentynine" could mean both 29 and 2009, so it's better to use "twothousandandnine" for the latter. "twentyten" cannot be interpreted as 30, only as 2010.

So I just checked, but couldn't find any data yet for 2024. The US Census Bureau has data online up to 2022, same for Statista. Judging from the past releases it would take a year or so for the information to be compiled and released. Looks like we'll have to wait.

Hey this is neat, but can you include lines to relate it to the number of eligible voters?

"Vamos a playa" by Righeira carries a lightweight, upbeat tune that vacationers might hum on the way to the beach. But the Spanish lyrics reveal that it's about the devastation left behind by nuclear armaments. And the schism between trying to live an ordinary life whilst having a nuclear Damocles sword waver over your head. That it became such a world wide hit makes it all the more ironic. I love it all the more for it.

Lovely, I tried the decky plugin for this before but it was somewhat unstable and also caused games to slow down while recording. I wonder what the storage requirements will be for recording, let's say, a buffer of three minutes at all times? 🤔

To those saying it's likely hardware damage: nope, luckily not. Booting into a different USB image doesn't produce this. But booting into tone same ISO produces these errors every time (it starts out normal and progressively gets worse over time).

I've had multiple occurrences of this lately with programs installed as flatpaks, such as Audacity (audio editor). The updates section might list 3.6.0 --> 3.5.4̀ for a program.

Whenever this happens I usually manually exclude any version downgrades and only upgrade the rest.

¿Can this happen due to security issues? ¿Or because the higher version has become incompatible with something else on my system?
