Paranoia is surely a common mental health issue linked to hate-based ideologies

I mean, she's an idiot but she's not entirely wrong either: Modern TVs try to collect all sorts of data on us, it's why smart TVs are cheaper than commercial displays with no smart features

Yeah but she’s clearly not talking about data collection and metrics. Someone accidentally connected to her tv when trying to screencast (most likely explanation based on her given evidence) because she isn’t smart enough to practice basic connected-device privacy best practices.

she isn’t smart enough to ~~practice basic connected-device privacy best practices~~ anything.

Oh yeah, like I said...

I mean, she could be. But probably so the TV manufacturer can sell her data to advertisers. It's nefarious, but not the same sort of nefarious she thinks it is. There's no jews with space lasers inside her TV.

Yeah, if you have a smart tv, you’re being spied on.

Yup, a vast portion of my blocked connections on my adguard home setup come from my tv.

Dear lord what a dumbass. You and everyone else carries around the spy device by choice, all day every day. I'm using it to type this comment. You're using it to read this comment. The thing has multiple cameras and microphones and is 100% listening to and watching everything we say or do. It's your phone, if that's not obvious by now.

If it's a smart TV, she's right, just not for the reasons she thinks. The TV collects data and uses that for advertising. If it has a microphone or camera, that's also a potential vector for attack, but I don't think she's interesting enough to spy on.

Imagine voting for her, and believing that to be a good thing.

I mean.... If it's a Samsung or budget brand it probably is.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Thats because we are all being spied on via our TVs. Have you not read 1984? I dont even own a tv.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

My tv fat shames me. It spied on me all pandemic and then now every time I turn it on it tells me “PerogiBoi, your ass got huuuuge”

I totally get why Marjorie: The Gathering is upset because my tv also talks to me. No one believes me and is all “PerogiBoi I’m concerned for your mental health”.

For serious. Me n Marj, 2 peas in a barge.

The only safe thing is to throw out all your televisions!

[–] rizoid 2 points 1 year ago

She probably got that free tv with the cameras and extra screen for ads.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

They may want the world of "1984" where the TV does spy on common folk. Since they think they can have that, they think it is possible.
