I eat lunch in the cafeteria at work. Sometimes i like to watch videos of cats doing funny things on youtube during my break. The thing is, i don't wear headphones and sometimes people give me looks. AITA for watching videos in the cafeteria without headphones?

Absolutely yes, how in considerate do you have to be to not realize that most people do not want to listen to your video during their break.

You're not an asshole, you're just inconsiderate. If you were an asshole, you wouldn't be asking for the advice of strangers and even considering that you're in the wrong.

Wear headphones, or watch the vids on mute. You can imagine the "Mrrreow" and "Prrph?" noises they make

Already been answered, but just want to clarify:

Yes

Yea. Stop that.

The fact you need to ask this makes me wonder what other ways you are an asshole.

Yeah you dumbass.

Afraid so, but I appreciate that you’re thinking about it enough to ask here. We all do obnoxious stuff sometimes. Still, don’t make other people listen to the videos you’re watching.

idk why the topic is being down voted. down voting topics makes people not want to share their experiences with the community

Imagine if you had to endure listening to your coworker watch some crap you didn't care about. That coworker must be a jerk, right? Assuming you want to be forced to hear their crap? You're just trying to eat your lunch, man. Why's your coworker gotta make everyone's day harder than it already is?

Do you understand now?

In a public setting, the only people who should be able to hear a video are the people who agreed to watch it.

If you are the only one watching something you need to use headphones so only you can hear it.

If you are showing it to a friend then you use the speakers with low volume so two people seated closely can hear it but someone at the next table cannot.

Remember the people working there serving the food and the others eating there did not ask to watch the video and should not need to hear it because they cannot or do not want to watch it with you.

Yes.
You are like the annoying person in the cafeteria drowning out me listening to Hungarian folk-punk on speaker.

Yes. People listening to shit without headphones around others is one of my biggest pet peeves

You don't need to spend a bunch of money to not be annoying in public. Good-enough Earbuds are like 30 dollars.
