Well, it’s basically an offshoot of the church of England, which may explain why it’s so overrepresented. Got brought along to the colonies.

Also I wouldn’t call it a progressive faith per se, historically speaking. Iirc there were a lot of internal divisions and different groups splintered off and formed their own things when the pro LGBT stuff was initially decided. So it’s hard to say what an Episcopalian from say 100 years ago might have in common with the modern church

Episcopalians are functionally like a more equality oriented catholic. Gay marriage is chill, women can be priests, divorce is chill. That type of stuff

Nah teenagers just looked like that back then. From all the smoking

If people chill and just let him do whatever he wants without challenging it it also sets bad precedent

I got started pretty recently!

I wanted a cheap drawing tablet for taking whiteboard style handwritten notes for a totally different project.

Decided since I had it I would play around with making some art. I ended up really enjoying it! It’s super relaxing.

Basically I just have Krita, which is free. Then I’ll take photographs or otherwise source images that I might want to paint, and try to recreate them as a reference. NOT tracing, but having the image side by side with the drawing. I find that to be the best for learning. I’m primarily a musician, and that’s how I was taught to learn music as well (listen to a piece and try to recreate it).

I checked out a few youtube videos about colors as well. Similar to above, I knew I didn’t want to just use a color picker to match the reference image (and I think the result would be bad anyway). So I watched how oil painters and watercolor people made their colors by eye, and have tried to recreate that process in Krita. This part has been the most fascinating, a lot of times your brain tells you you’re looking at a certain color, but because of shadows and lighting and stuff you have to know to choose a totally different color to produce that effect.

I’m pretty happy with it and I want to keep practicing so I can hand paint my own album art someday! 30+ too of course, altho now that I know I enjoy it I wish I had started much earlier

So, no, definitionally that is not binary. Can’t have four options in a binary.

What you’re describing is actually a bimodal distribution. This is when the data congregates strongly around two peaks, but there are also many entries along a spectrum between them

Haha oh no worries lol I didn’t mean for you to change it I was just being silly :p it is nice tho. I think cultivating positivity is gonna be a powerful thing moving forward

These always cheer me up but this one is so ominous. Let’s hope to see many more!

The silksong community is one of my favorite of all time for years now. Every couple of weeks a new “theme” of insane shitposting evolves. Most fun and creative silly posting I’ve ever seen.

One common post is “_____ every day until silksong comes out”. People are doing fanart challenges, one guy posts a video of himself petting a cat every day which is very popular. The cat had to get a surgery at one point and needed a cone but was fine.

It’s not just noise. It brings people a lot of joy. There’s been several posts over the years from people basically grieving the potential loss/change of the community once the game actually drops. I’ll miss it, too

I follow these things closely on my own time, as I assume is common for nearly everyone on lemmy.

But I saw coverage of Biden’s farewell address randomly at the gym. And also at a local restaurant. The media now is putting that word “oligarchy” in front of people's eyes, as a summary of his speech. I would guess most people googling it are checking if “the oligarchy” is a country in the middle east or something

No no it’s good, this is actually better than them making a proper announcement. Community loves this shit.

Quick summary:

Dev changes name, handle, and pfp on twitter. Posts a cryptic message about keeping your eyes closed tomorrow.

Reverse image search of pfp leads to a recipe released April 2nd

Cryptic message appears to be a reference to an Imagine Dragons thing from April 2nd

“Tomorrow” was interpreted as being related to the big switch 2 reveal, launching April 2nd

The name and handle also appear to be references to things having to do with April 2nd

The community is ablaze right now. Without a hint of irony: there is more genuine belief in the game actually coming out this time than there was before the original delay was announced in 2023, back when we had an official release date

I think it’s actually very nice for the different areas of the program to have a distinct visual identity.

Imagine making the same type of image about your own furniture. A mish mash of a bunch of different items and styles, but when you put everything together it just looks like home

I started seeing cakes appear on people’s usernames, and I realized that it’s been a full year now since the great debacle through which many of us discovered lemmy.

Seeing them all start to pop up at once has made me a bit nostalgic. Memmy was such an exciting and important project during that time, I believe for many people it is the reason they stuck with lemmy in the long term.

So, cheers to the devs, and to anyone who still checks on this community from time to time when memmy crosses their mind.

So, I noticed that a couple of my image uploads made using Voyager now just show a “?” graphic. Looking around this community, I’m seeing a lot of other people’s posts are like that too.

In other apps and via browser, the images are also missing. Is anyone else experiencing this/do we know what’s happening?

I noticed while scrolling All that whenever these posts are displayed, the app lags out significantly, but then returns to normal a few seconds after they’re off screen.

I suspect it’s actually just the top one because it’s a gif. Running latest test test flight version

Behavior started a few updates ago for me. If I go to answer a text or check any other app, when I come back to Memmy the app won’t let me click on posts for 10-20 seconds

Lemmy.world was experiencing authentication issues yesterday, making it difficult to comment and vote.

These issues were resolved some hours ago when lemmy.world updated to 18.02, but you may still be experiencing issues with your account on third party apps such as memmy.

If so, everything will start working normally if you remove your account from the app and add it again! Possibly just reinstalling will also achieve the same thing, but I haven’t tested that personally.

It feels weird having it there in big bold letters all the time. I sometimes want to show someone a post or talk about lemmy in general, but I’m apprehensive about them learning my account name.

In Apollo, there was this really interesting feature that let you disable the gestures for voting/replying/etc. If you did so, then you could use the entire screen to navigate between posts instead of needing to swipe all the way from the side.

I struggle with a repetitive stress injury and this feature helped me a lot! I managed to grab a screenshot of the exact setting before Apollo shut down. It would be awesome if something similar could be implemented in Memmy

I’ve been sleeping on the same one for a few years but it’s become really lumpy. I don’t mind spending a little money, but are the modern “high tech” pillows really worth it?

I noticed I can save posts from the app but don’t see where to view the posts I’ve saved
