Nintendo will probably start talking about its new hardware over the summer, or by autumn at the latest.
(If my information is accurate) Didn’t Nintendo say on an investor call that they wouldn’t be announcing any new hardware until at least Q1 2024? So, by fiscal year that would be April of 2024 correct?
Small caveat, they specified "releasing" rather than "announcing". Otherwise yes, the 1st of April 2024 is supposedly the earliest we could see something released, assuming Nintendo didn't lie to their investors or nothing got muddled up in translation.
I suppose this does leave room for an announcement pre-2024/4/1, but I wouldn't count on it personally.
Ubisoft mentioned in some recent interview that Nintendo recommended they don't release Mario+Rabbids: Sparks of Hope on Switch, and hold it for the next version of console. It's better to release one game from each series on a console.
Which suggests that next 3D Mario, and Mario Kart would be on next console, but then they released two Xenoblade and two Zelda on one console, so don't know how strict they are about all this.
Thing is, you never know with Nintendo, we may call the direct "sunset slate", but we have 3 first party games in this year. Zelda, Pikmin and 2D Mario. Doesn't look like Nintendo is slowing down, but let's see.
Technically BoTW was released on the Wii U

For Zelda, you can make an argument that BotW was a WiiU game, following the same pattern as TP/SS on GC/Wii

Microsoft knows that Nintendo is working on something, and has cloud gaming services working there already.
There's no doubt next console version is in R&D, question is, when are they going to release it.
With all the rumours of Switch Pro, even from some respectable insiders, it seems there was plan of Switch Pro but it was cancelled. So, they are definitely working on next console, but when and how they release them is still a question.
Personally, I am excited for next iteration, and afraid that Nintendo might step away from Switch design for some other gimmick.
Phew, Switch was 2 years between announcement and release, roughly 18 months between WiiU announce and Release, Similar to the Wii.
So If I had to guess, they'll either Announce in the September Nintendo Direct, or the one following, start of 2024
I'd put money on 2024 at the earliest. Don't want to ruin a holiday game sales season by basically giving customers a reason not to buy stuff this holiday and save for the fancy new console. Announcing early 2024 will allow people to still do that saving over the year (assuming a holiday 2024 launch) while not potentially sabotaging this year's sales.
Would be one of the shortest "announcement to release" times of nintendo, but could certainly happen!
Nintendo CEO replied to an investor than the NX was revealed so early because they had a partnership with Dena for mobile games and they needed to send a signal that they were not going to stop selling new consoles but it was a special case. I expect this time they’ll be just a couple months between announcement and release.
Hmm... I was thinking maybe a release near the end of 24, but if they want to do March release, same as Switch, then could be 2025's March.
Gives me enough time to save for next console. 😀

I knew it this whole time. Nintendo purposely delayed Metroid Prime 4 to make it a launch title for their next console to force people to buy that one instead.

I feel like there is always a rumor that Nintendo is just about to announce a system refresh or new System, even when they have just announced a system refresh or new system. It is not unheard of for Nintendo to have a drought of AAA games. I would take this article with a grain of salt.
Switch should have been refreshed a few years ago. I’m not holding my breath Nintendo does it now.
I have a theory that the intended to do it in 2020-/2021, but COVID chip shortages and such threw a wrench into their plans, they already had their hands on the OLED panels they planned to use for them, but couldn't get whatever they needed for the rest of the upgrade, so they came out with the OLED to use them up because they decided by the time things normalized and they could ramp up production on the refresh it would've been to late in the switch lifecycle to be worth it since they were already kind of pushing it to begin with.
Speculation: Nintendo is secretly owned by a man named Jordan Whiler, and is working on a third-person chess simulator where you work to defeat lawn mites using your joy-cons as “dowsing wands” that predict where your opponent will move their pieces.
Of course, speculation is pretty random guesswork and often wrong.
