In the latest conflict between the College Board and conservative policymakers, the Arkansas Department of Education warned schools on Monday — the first day of classes in many districts — not to offer Advanced Placement African American Studies.

The GOP is a hate group.

[–] FlyingSquid 77 points 1 year ago (3 children)

How are these racist fuckers just blatantly getting away with it? Why can't someone do something?!

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago

That's the thing many people miss when they look at the right. Republican voters want this because racism is the number one reason that people vote Republican anyway.

Trump is a symptom of the disease, just like Huckabee Sanders is a symptom. The disease is that Republican voters are so weak-minded their media creates fairy tale realities for them to inhabit, because actual reality is too hard.

Alabama straight up locked an elected mayor out of their city hall:

DeSantis straight up removed elected officials:

The reason they get away with it? I don't know. But it's so blatant that it seems to make them untouchable. Also, people suck.

They were voted into power, they can be voted out.

You speak the truth. The ignorant hillbilly’s of my state think those idiots they voted in are doing great work. Shrek hasn’t done a single “great thing” since she took office. She is a terrible human being just like her father. They are modeling as many policies as they can after Florida.

[–] TokenBoomer 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If your “great” thing is racism, they are doing a good job.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It is great in the sense that it is big. Abhorrent but big.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well if they aren't voted out their electorate must approve of what they're doing, barring gerrymandering.

[–] FlyingSquid 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's not just gerrymandering, there's racist gerrymandering.

I'm sure you're shocked.

Hate with the voters are strong and they will be reelected.

I just had a thought- Maybe we should let these babies have their way. Maybe we should do 'White American Studies' too. Let's let high schoolers know about every bit of murder, slavery, rape, and other injustice that has been done by white people since 1492. Let's have them really study white people. In depth.

[–] reagansrottencorpse 12 points 1 year ago

They would never allow that, they are hypocrites of the highest order.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Wait no not like that

Hey - as long as races are considered monolithically, I'm happy.

The party of small government wants to use the government to manipulate how private businesses operate

[–] MotoAsh 6 points 1 year ago

Stop it. They haven't been the party of small business for DECADES. Only complete morons believe it in the first place.

No one CARES if they're hypocrites. They just want to rule. Conservatives just want "their guy" to win, even if it means a worse life for them. They are nothing but pathetically stupid, ignorant fools who only want others to hurt.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's true, but public schools are not private businesses

[–] Son_of_dad 20 points 1 year ago (3 children)

So what are students going to do when they want a career and can't get in cause their states made the required courses illegal?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

The conservative lawmakers won't give a shit, that's for sure

[–] mr_jawa 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well they will have the option of working in coal mines with their 8 year olds.

[–] S_204 1 points 1 year ago

20 year olds are far too large to be working in the mines, let alone they'd be missing grade 6 PE if they were working in those mines.

Gotta think of the Razorbacks after all. Still need some kids to bash heads for entertainment don't we?

Remember when we were supposed to feel bad that ten graduating seniors might lose a shooting sport scholarship over gun laws? My Google fu is failing to find the oped about students who depend on semi automatic rifles for their scholarships

I'm not surprised, Arkansas is home to the most racist city in America, Harrison.

There are plenty of videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltmlvk9GAto

Here is an alternative Piped link(s): https://piped.video/watch?v=ltmlvk9GAto

Arkansas. Your government is racist.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sure, let's not teach about the history of the second largest population in the state...

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Can't be talking about the stuff Jimmy's granddad did, he might get uncomfortable.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Oh Arkansas.... This is one of the many reasons I left my home state. I'm sadly not surprised to see this headline. This is also coming from a state that still has desegregation rulings on the books because even though the Little Rock Nine is a celebrated event - there are people who still oppose it. I am a product of that school system and am so happy my children won't be.

Anecdotal, but I remember them shipping in the white kids to my junior and senior high schools because of those rulings. It was also a running joke among us then students about where Arkansas fell in the overall education rankings for education - we were consistently in the bottom three.

Welp not moving to Arkansas now...

[–] Catma 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This was your breaking point?

[–] doppelgangmember 1 points 1 year ago
