The memes not wrong, but what other option do they have that’s not going to get instantly attacked? They need a way to coordinate.

It could be on matrix, a federated communications protocol. It works like every other proprietary comms platform and supports very strong encryption

And susceptible to the exact DDOS attacks they are under now. Even moving to a web service with DDOS protection has only done so much.

Too many people are taking offense to what they’ve done.

Discord is also susceptible to DOS attacks. Every single website and service is susceptible to a DOS attack, even with DNS services like cloud flare.

Yes, so hence my question about what else someone could legitimately use….

Memes are funny, they are so much better when rooted in truth.

There isn’t another option for them, you suggested another platform with the same issues… in fact a worse one since they wouldn’t have the same protections from these attacks like discord does….

Having ideas is fine and dandy, but not worse ones mate hahah.

Matrix isn't a worse option, just a different one. In fact I'd argue that it's a better option due to it being FOSS. Matrix is better compared to ActivityPub, the protocol for mastodon, lemmy, pixelfed, friendica, etc. Matrix is a protocol that allows for servers to federate with each other and bridge between other communications/social media services. A bridge could theoretically exist (it probably does) between a matrix server and lemmy.

Better in the context of being safe from these griefers…

Absolutely FOSS would be better…. If it couldn’t be targeted easier than other options…

wdym? you can just use the default matrix.org homeserver

Go old school: IRC.

revolt.chat exists; it's an open-source discord clone.

Why this instead of matrix, which is already federated?

Never trust “might be in the future” things. You don’t start using something because of features that are planned, you take what actually can do the job.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

just use a matrix server

I wonder why the post is locked? 😅

Once again my choice of instance is validated.

History will validate my choice.
