Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The White House called the premiere of Ontario to tell him to tone down the rhetoric and tariffs 😂 imagine attacking someone then complaining cause they retaliated

It is the Russian way

[–] inclementimmigrant 5 points 4 hours ago

Yup. Got to be a pretty shameless asshole to be able to do that.

sings in american... " O Canada!"

The whole “we’re doing tariffs” > 3 hours pass > “jk we’ll do it next month” thing was absurd the first time he did it.

one month later

These last few weeks have been a long fuckin year, I swear to god.

They should state they're not going to play the games of kleptocrats, and keep the tariffs going until "next month" or Trump takes them off the table entirely... along with a detailed, open plan to reapply and maintain them longer if he does it again.

Make the plan deterministic and dependent on Americas actions, then stick to the plan (e.g. each flip flop will result in a permanent tariff of x % that Canada will never remove as long as this admin remains). Give businesses predictability and reliability.

Hey, seriously, if any other countries wanna say “hey we’re gonna collectively trade war the ever loving fuck out of you so long as Trump is in power”, I would heartily encourage you to do so. He’ll scream about it being extortion, but you can just turn around and say “yeah. It is. Because you were extorting us, and turnabout is fair play.”

It’ll be economically catastrophic for US, but honestly, I do think it needs to happen. The vast majority of our citizenry need to have the delusion of “American exceptionalism” shattered.

It's not what Musk meant, but he's not wrong that Americans need to suffer a little bit to learn.

I worry that too many of them simply aren't going to learn and are just gonna do what they did during COVID and go to their death beds blaming it on everything but COVID... they'll go to their deathbeds blaming it on everything but Trump, their God Emperor.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Even better reason to make Americans suffer and become weaker. Weaken their world influence and weaken the good will they were able to abuse to monopolize their military industrial complex and sell their goods.

This generation will suffer greatly but in the long run the move towards less dependency on the US is for the better. The US needs to lose their ability to hold the world hostage in the future.

As a US citizen who lived through the War on Terror... You're right.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

The US will just get the war machine rolling full gear and bring freedom to some shithole country that has natural resources

This is how you deal with misbehaving children. Define a boundary (don't do X), establish consequences (If you do X, I will do Y), and then follow through consistently, exactly as you described.

Ideally you don't have to treat world leaders like they're children, but these are the times we find ourselves in.

This is Donald Trump here. The vivid imagination of the collective, creative left ascribes many nefarious motivations to him and his gang, but the truth is probably that they're shorting the drop and buying the floor.

What is more likely, that there is an evil genius grand scheme in motion, or that this is a grift by a lifelong grifter?

Fearless predictions: if the tariffs come at all, they'll be rolled back as soon as Americans start to get mad about them.

He will finish his four -year term and then release a book ghost written by JD Vance.

This is gonna suck but fuckin' A canada. Have the spine we don't.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 hours ago

I only learned what that meant from Mike Myers on SNL last week lol!

[–] cabron_offsets 20 points 8 hours ago

Good. Fuck us.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 7 hours ago

No half measures when it comes to assholes who always flip flop on their threats.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Be careful saying “liberal”! That’s a current target word for the .ml shills!

[–] NocturnalMorning 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Is it really necessary to add these weird license hyperlinks below your comments...it was funny like once.

[–] Stern 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Why even care? If it really bugs you just block the person.

[–] NocturnalMorning 4 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (2 children)

I just don't understand the point of it. It takes effort to hyperlink a comment like that under every single comment you make.

[–] CosmicCleric 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)
[–] Stern 3 points 7 hours ago

Not really that much effort depending on your setup. On phones you can pin stuff to the clipboard that you use a lot. The option exists in windows as well, just use windows key+v and turn on clipboard history.

I’m a proud liberal and I constantly get flack from the left for being a fascist and from the right for being a godless commie.
