Rules (2024-08-30)

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in [email protected]. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)

(This list may get expanded when necessary.)

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @[email protected], @[email protected], or @[email protected].

The US has cut off intelligence-sharing with Kyiv in a move that could seriously hamper the Ukrainian military’s ability to target Russian forces, according to officials familiar with the matter.

The move follows the decision on Monday by the Trump administration to suspend military aid deliveries toUkraine and comes after a dramatic breakdown in relations between the US president and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

US intelligence co-operation has been essential for Ukraine’s ability to identify and strike Russian military targets.

Three officials familiar with the decision confirmed that Washington had frozen intelligence channels with Kyiv.

This is a developing story

Gutting US sanctions enforcement of Russian oligarchs

Cutting off US military aid to Ukraine

Lifting US sanctions on Russia

Cutting US intelligence sharing to Ukraine

Safe to say these are not measured responses meant to bring a just peace in Ukraine, only Putin's version of "peace" by which Ukraine unconditionally surrenders

There is no doubt that the US president is a foreign agent of Russia

no puppet, no puppet, you're the puppet

Russia played the long game and now owns the USA. And thanks to that, it threatens all of Europe and Canada.

So Donnie was playing 4d chess all along. Just as a pawn at the center of the board.

I don't think that Europe has equivalent capabilities here. Kofman's talked about how intelligence sharing was probably the most-critical form of support the US has provided Ukraine with.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago

EU and the European NATO countries should seek to build up these capabilities quickly, while also severing ties with US intelligence in all aspects. Also Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand need to disengage from the 5 eyes before all their secrets are fully accessible to Russia.

The US still share these intelligence reports with NATO countries, allowing for the continuation of these reports, just with a middle man. If I have understood it correctly.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Ok honestly, I didn't have the US pulling out of NATO on my Russia Defeats USA bingo card, but I see that one coming up now

I'm sick of being in developing stories...

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago

Understandable tbh, they clearly don't have a lot of intelligence to share.

At this pace he will soon sanction the Ukraine for something.

I'm born and raised in Europe but my father is American (he moved here a long time ago sick of the US) and I inherited the citizenship. Every single day I feel more and more ashamed of it, but I the process to lose it is cumbersome and expensive. The US was never a bastion of goodwill, not at all... but I'd never imagined that this is the path the country is taking at such a horrendous speed

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I inherited the citizenship

Have you been checking in with the IRS? You may owe them taxes...

[–] JineteDeAbuelas47 7 points 1 day ago

I know, I'm young and started working 2 years ago, I am getting my shit together. I also need to do it anyways if i want to rennounce to my us citizenship

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s like reverse nationalism, both being silly. Why would anyone be ashamed of something that wasn’t their decision? Chin up and live your life mate!

[–] JineteDeAbuelas47 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know, It's just that the recent events have definitely put me on the doomer-side of thinking.

I'm sure Russia will be getting all of our Intel instead.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

This is actually ok if US also cuts off president sharing with Russia.

[–] homesweethomeMrL 5 points 1 day ago

God fucking dammit.
