Close to half vs more than 40% is an odd choice when the two numbers are 45 and 43. It feels like they're trying to push an agenda.

Democrats wish they were more Republican but not vice-versa says poorly defined survey without bothering to define its terms or methods.
This is how we got here in the first place. No one wants more moderates, they have no agenda except keep shit the same for businesses and the rich to do what they want.
People want better healthcare, improved infrastructure, same education, and a better life. None of that is what modest centrists propose. They propose nothing. There is no conservative agenda that works for the people. They are anti-progress by definition, while progressives are for moving forward.
You should know thecentersquare is a conservative news site and part of the Franklin news foundation.
So they want their progressive party to be more center... They have a word for that, it's called conservatism. They're conservatives masquerading as progressives.
They want to appear to have the moral high ground while simultaneously saying things like "I know the US Constitution protects all people in the United States, not just American Citizens, but I don't care! I want immigrants to suffer so my life is better!"
That's who liberals have always been
Democrats will never learn centrism is a failure. Grow some balls and take a stand or get out of the way of those that are.
There is legitimately no hope for the United States.
Today, 45% of Democrats and left-leaning independents surveyed indicated they would prefer a more moderate Democratic Party, up 11% from 2021
Meaning the majority doesn't want that...
And ignoring that right/left is too simplified.
I would hate for the Dem party to move towards the center on social issues they're already too close to it.
But economically?
At this point that would mean they move towards the left again.
It's a two-party system. If they move toward the middle, the whole thing shifts right. It's very precisely adapted to mitigate any kind of meaningful, moderate, centrist position. If, instead, we're talking about comparing the US system to that of other countries, the idea that the Democrats are leftists is hilariously misinformed.
erm... for them to move to center they have to shift left. Currently they are pretty much righ of the center. They are only to the left of Republicans.
That's what I mean. They're not left of center by global political standards, but they are the leftmost of the two only US options, making it "The Left" by US standards. I feel like this article is using that ambiguity to imply Democrats want a more conservative party rather than a more liberal one.
