Updated list:

  • expressing concern about innocent Palestinian citizens being gunned down = nazi
  • performing an actual nazi salute (twice) = not a nazi
  • claiming to be a nazi and selling swastika merch = not a nazi

Every day is opposite day in Trumpistan.

always has been. trump isnt the cause, hes the consequence.

I was begging my American friends in the skeptic community since 2011-2012, that the far-right is banking on the "you call everyone a nazi you disagree with" to help normaize their bullshit, while also saw the far-right creating a more digestable version of their "cultural Marxism" conspiracy theory. Then Gamergate happened and they told me they should have listened to me earlier.

I miss the days when people laughed at people claiming that black people in entertainment media will destroy the white west. I miss the days when we told the RFK Jr. types "Shoot yourself with increasingly larger caliber bullets to build up immunity to getting shot!".

free speech as defined by mini-truth

(it's a reference to one of Orwell's books, i think 1984)

Department of Free, Unadulterated Speech

Missed a chance to make it: "Department Of Ostensibly Free Unadulterated Speech", aka DOOFUS

Couldn't come up with another O, thanks.

I don't see an owl in the post?

The Superb Owl. Why does the title mention it, but not show the owl?

He's on third.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sadly, the Duolingo owl died. It was useless for teaching a language, but definitely was a superb mascot.

[–] anon6789 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I hope they didn't kill him off for good. He was a very identifiable mascot with years of brand recognition, and though some publicly disliked his guilt tripping, he deserves better than an offscreen Poochie death.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's obviously some marketing stunt. I believe yhe weird guilt-tripping behavior started after a meme appeared during the COVID19 confinement, showing the mascot saying something like "Spanish or vanish." This massively boosted traffic to the app and led to its enshittification into this engagement-first, teaching-second garbage app they have today. I genuinely enjoyed the mascot before that.

Tldr; Nah, likely just engagement boosting.

[–] anon6789 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I enjoyed their Spanish course and did it everyday for like 3 years. I got ticked when they took away my golden owl for completing all the courses when they started adding new stuff and added more pay to win type things. I was glad they added new things, but I didn't like them yanking my achievement.

Whatever this thing with Duo is, it also seems to be something centered around X, as most content about it seems sources from there and now they are showing him having been hit by a cyber truck.... Both of which make me enjoy this campaign even less.

I miss old Duolingo.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yep, they are a publicly traded company now. The shareholders demand more profit every quarter.

Want to really learn a language?

Watch this short video :https://youtu.be/E6588DlZW-c

Search : language transfer app/site, comprehensible input + target language (ie: Spanish), cognates.

[–] anon6789 3 points 2 weeks ago

Lol so much polite sass! Good ad transition as well. Bravo.

I do a lot of things in an introverted way, but I learned I do way better learning with another human being. Not that I disagree with anything in his video. I've tried his method for learning music, but I've had so much better luck with in person lessons just because I can interrupt right away when I don't get something and have them explain it in different words until it gets through. They can also observe me, and catch me before I get something wrong ingrained in my brain or push me to work on weak areas of my studies.

I still do a lot of musical and other learning how the video talks about though. Good stuff for anyone interested.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oooooooh. You mean killed his usage as a mascot. I thought he meant the actual owl died.

[–] anon6789 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, both actually. Maybe.

It seems they had him get killed by a cyber truck. 😐

The app icon is currently a Duo with X eyes and they showed his casket.

Feels very Mr Peanut in 2020, which I see they brought him back after just a year.

I don't know what exactly they're doing, but they seem to have been going through branding struggles the last year or so.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Step 1: get young actress with big boobs who wants her next big break to wear a bikini with their logo to jump on a trampoline to shoot a commercial to be shown at the superbowl.

There is no step 2. This is how easy marketing is. Take a logo, slap it on some young tits, have them bounce. People remember your brand now!

You have no idea how many double takes I've had to do scrolling this week! It's like when someone calls out to someone with the same name as you.

Am I crazy or is Kanye helping shedding light on the absurdity of the current situation? Am I the only one who thinks that? This crazy bastard is so, incredibly unhinged that somehow his message goes backwards. I'm starting to lose my mind I feel it

[–] MissJinx 41 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

One thing do not justify the other. Nazis are not to be praized. Also fuck israel right now.

Let us not forget the past nor excuse the present.

We are not guilt for sins of our fathers the same way the jewish people as a whole are not to blame for the sins of their children.

Edit: I'm not Jewish, American, German, Nazi or anithing else, Just trying to have commom sense in a world totally without it

[–] [email protected] 36 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Nah. He's just being edgy because he craves attention.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago

He just seems miffed he's being outnazi'd.

Literally every conservative would be, by the same token, as far as anyone with a functioning brain is concerned. Everything they do is so clunky and obvious but people refuse to see it.

Their entire ideology, and adjacent ideologies, are not viable without incredible amounts of force and coercion. Their politicians have always, when they even bother to make policy, been completely lacking in any level of nuance.

Kanye isn’t even the craziest one, he’s just off his meds and mad about not getting as much attention as he used to get.

[–] Lost_My_Mind 5 points 2 weeks ago

I’m starting to lose my mind I feel it

Ha ha ha.....

Fuck me. It’s not even an allegory.

Edit: and the police is looking for which law to charge the dancer.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Edit: and the police is looking for which law to charge the dancer.

I was looking for that line to quote in a different thread. When googling articles it seems they've updated this to say no charges or arrests will be made, but god damn is that not a dystopian line "police are still determining the appropriate charges to file" AKA "this guy didn't break any law but we're still trying to figure out how to lock him away."

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago

"this guy didn't break any law but we're still trying to figure out how to lock him away."

I mean that's like 90% of US history. Especially for minorities and disenfranchised groups.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Just follow the comic.

If you still don’t understand. A dancer for Kendrick showed a Sudan/Palestine flag and was promptly removed.

Yeezy.com is selling a Nazi shirt and Ye paid for an ad for it.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago

"Promptly removed"

Don't give the swastica website clickable advertising! You can just say kanye west is doing it. We don't need the web address.
