Esq does not have regulated usage in the U.S. Anyone can put Esq behind their name without being prosecuted for practicing law without a license.

From now on, I will be known as Kafka Esq.

All the cool kids are doing it

[–] FlyingSquid 21 points 2 years ago

But I thought that's how a Bill becomes a Law(yer).

Just for fun I looked this up. From Wikipedia, it seems very few places have legal protection over the title of "esquire". So if you're not from one of those places, have fun with the title!

yeah and the association with lawyers seems to be a us thing. Im always conflicted with memes as they are gags so not expected to be factual but then I think its easy for folks to see one and make a connection of fact from it in their head. Is it responsible to correct a meme or is it just being a buzzkill?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago

I correct memes all the time. My friends love me...I can't help it!!

We can laugh and learn at the same time!

Enjoy the meme, then go to the comments for some jokes and insight into a topic you wouldn't otherwise research.

Most bogus...

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

I thought Esquire was just something anyone could use? I thought it basically meant nothing at all.

I'm not from America though so maybe it's an American thing.

But you're still a real wombat, right?

[–] CombatWombatEsq 4 points 2 years ago

And I've seen real combat, too 😜

It's quite alright, after this go study and then come back in time and just put your law diploma somewhere. Let's say we put it under the couch over there.

search under the couch

Ah, there it is!

Hi everyone, I'm raptir, esq.

Sue me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

If I sue you, you'll be liable to sue yourself for illegal representation. Therefore, you'll either win and pay damages, or lose and pay damages, meaning you've just found out an infinite money glitch IRL. I'll see you in court.

Next you’re going to tell me Handsome Major Angus MacZongo Esquire lied to me too??

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've never been represented by Bill directly, but I was a client of Bill S. Preston, Theodore Logan, Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan. Should I be concerned?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Only if they represented you in the case of Chuck Norris and his Cowboy Ass vs. The Crotch of Indiana Jones.
