Is this so things can get "cheaper" by moving the real price into hidden fees? His base is absolutely dumb enough to fall for that

For anyone who doesn't know: these were the only people banks and lending companies feared.

Me, actively buying my first house: uh-oh

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can't decide if it's a good idea to sell my house this year or not lol

[–] cm0002 23 points 1 day ago

Probably not, if you already have an existing mortgage it's probably best to stay put with it and it's existing contract terms

Unless your goal is to sell your house and live out in the wilderness or an EU country, then yea

Well, it was created through an act of Congress. It is the law. An executive order cannot shut it down.

If the executive order attempts or purports to shut it down, and no one does anything to stop that, then yes the order can.

I don’t disagree, but it is important to acknowledge that it is illegal. Some people think the president can just do this, but he cannot without violating the law and the constitution.

You are technically correct of course. We all know he doesn't care about the constitution or breaking laws. I'm curious to see how right wingers will spin this as a win.

They just have to say it's something Obama did that Trump is undoing. I actually think the less the right wing media even acknowledges it happening, the more successful it will be.

While the CFPB can still take complaints, it cannot conduct examinations or pursue existing investigations. The order is also interpreted as blocking communication with regulated companies, consumer advocates, and other outside groups.

There's probably a statute of limitations on some things, and suspension might make it not possible to take some actions.

The fun part of the idiocy is that the complaints are all public. A major complaint the financial industry had was that anyone could go and just say anything about an institution and it could be found by anyone.

So the only part they left behind is peoples ability to say bad things about financial institutions, and took away the agency's ability to say "actually, quicken loans hasn't been randomly adding $50 fees to mortgage payments".

This will save enormous amounts of money, that can be used for tax cuts, which will benefit the poor tremendously.
