I once saw this in a smaller scale and it kinda blew me away. I had a friend who worked on construction for a small company with maybe 8 employees and their boss. He woked a lot. He made some good money, but not compared to the work they did. The boss took so much work all the time, that they sometimes worked from 6am untill 10pm. Saturdays as well. At some point he couldn't pay them overtime, but promised to pay them asap. (And he did, but like 10 years later.) One saturday, we had some plans and i told him that i would pick him up at his workplace and we could go directly from there. When i picked him up his boss showed off his brand new mercedes AMG to his crew. And everyone was just talking about how cool his new car was, and he needs a car like that to pull his new huge boat. Literally no one was like: "waaaait a minute."

Peasant mentality has been ingrained into american working class.
There's a scene from Treasure of the Sierra Madre that's almost the exact same thing. Great movie.
Unironically the place I last worked at
“Our 20-employee company made over € 8 million profit last year!”
I ask for a raise because I'm underpaid for the work I deliver.
“Ahh noooo see there is no more money for thag...”
Needless to say I quit. Citing them this as one of the reasons.
The last place I worked was like this too. Smallish ~50 employee company that big numbers. They had an initiative thing where if they hit 20 million or something like that they would take everyone to cancun, they made 21 and found a way to back out of it. They made a few million off of some applications that I came up with, built, managed, and worked with the sales teams to sell, all along with my normal daily tasks. I was just bored and kind of fucking around. I asked more a measly raise of $10,000 since I recently found out I was the lowest paid dev there (and the best, not bragging it just wasn't a dev focused company). They pushed it off for so long I found another job and when they said they'd give me a raise to stay I told them I'd need an extra $80,000 now assuming they'd say no, they did. About a year later I'm at my cushy new job and I got a call offering me big bucks to come back because no one could figure out my horrendous code and they were losing clients who wanted new features. I said no. I asked my new boss for a raise after my first year and it took 10 minutes of talking before we were both happy with a number.
Like VW is paying out 4.5 billion € in dividends, while telling employees they have to cut wages. They played it clever by announcing huge layoffs, that can be prevented by cutting the wages now. But the Porsche-Piech family is a few billions richer now and will be a few billions richer at the end of the year.
On the plus side, real estate prices will likely continue to fall in the region.
So win win, right? Well, except for the plebs, obviously.
Pay bonus with stocks in the company. Problem solved.
CEO pay raise, company buys back stocks, record profits...but we gotta make layoffs and no more raises or overtime.
The more a company brags about profit the less work I do. Clearly the work I am doing is profitable so why do more if I am not seeing the benifits.
Company-wide email: "We've had our best year ever and it's all thanks to YOU!"
Me: "Great. Can I have a raise?"
Company: "Oh, we can't afford THAT."
Company: But you can finish work half an hour earlier this Friday, or stay and enjoy free pizza on us! Half a slice per person, max. No fancy toppings.
Don't forget to tell the customers about raising the prices because of the inflation
Look at all this money at saved by firing all the people that created the products we’re profiting on
Pay management, CEOs, shareholders all or majority of all profits, even though they did nothing to build the company .... tell employees they have to pay them less but make them work harder.
.... also raise the price of food and tell everyone it's their fault they can't afford anything.
Needs a third button that says "do stock buybacks"
Profits or bragging how they can do a ton of stock buybacks.
What if we add Kurt Angle to the mix?
You chance of winnin', it- DRASTIC go down.
because he KNOWS he can't beat me. 🚨🚨🚨🚨
And he's NOT EVEN GONNA TRY 💪🏾💪🏾
But if they paid more then they wouldn’t have record profits! Won’t you think of the shareholders?
This is why so many tech workers are so bourgeoisified & reactionary: they get bought off with RSUs and see themselves as temporarily embarrassed billionaires.
Its just not wirth it to work anymore. I can make more money by faking a disability and filing for social security benefits and stay home all day. /joking
Really?
Which country are you from?
Wouldn't that be difficult if you don't already have some political hold or bribe money?
