Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

Honestly, the whole Darth Jar Jar thing becomes especially believable through the lens of current events.

A character who sows chaos at every turn to rapidly advance the largest-scale evil possible in a way that everyone who watches him repeatedly just dismisses his actions as accidents or dumb luck and fails to hold him responsible until it's too late.

Sounds ridiculous, but that's literally Trump.

Oh great, we're on the Darth Jar Jar timeline.

We always were

I thought it was more Sheev was trump and Darth Jar Jar was more like musk pulling the strings.

Darth Jar Jar has more class than either of those two creatures.

If only Democratic leadership had anything near the balls of Mace Windu. They’d pause the fight to pen an angry letter while Jedi, younglings, and the entire Republic get slaughtered.

They were absolutely as blind as the Jedi Council, and just like the Council they waited too long to act. The Garland DoJ could have prevented this, had they prioritized justice over cowering to the rich, the powerful, and the fictional consciences of republican voters.

Bullshit. The Jedi were fighting a war and still rushed over when they finally had proof. Acting before then would have literally just been their own coup. They had grown detached, for sure, but it also wasn't their job to do literally everything to hold the Republic together.

Trump had his Order 66 leaked and the dumbass Dems still stuck their thumbs up their asses. And it IS literally their job to hold the Republic together. There's even a lot more of them than 10,000 per 10 trillion citizens.

Why the fuck don't Star Wars fans understand Star Wars?

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I think the Jedi council was very clearly myopic and hidebound, not to mention their precognitive abilities were blunted by the influence of the dark side, much like the sanewashing of Trump in the media.

Why the fuck don’t Star Wars fans understand Star Wars?

Indeed.

Bro, you just compared a space wizard blocking other space wizard psychic visions with better space magic to "sane washing Trump"

Just to start with, Palpatine also controlled the media! The direct connection was already there!

It's almost like I was right the first time.

A Sith Lord in control of the senate you say? We must call the council at once and write a formal letter to Emperor Palpatine to tell him his actions are against the founding principles of this republic! And we'll make sure to comply with his every demand, but be strongly against the morality of this whole situation.

This line from something else science fictiony in the same era also hits differently now.

It's just a show. You should really just relax.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But I need to know how he eats and breathes and other science facts!

It's a mystery of science and theater....

The downvotes on this just tell me too many users here don't know how good MST3K is.

This line dropped as the second George W Bush term was getting underway. It felt super relevant then, too (I actually viewed him and Cheney as worse than Trump until he actively worsened COVID). But this term's opening has been so bad so fast that the line really does hit different.

Bush killed a million Iraqis in a war he fabricated to force feed the MIC and oil complexes $8 trillion dollars.

He was worse than Trump until Trump decided to dismantle democracy entirely

[–] IndustryStandard 14 points 2 days ago

Star Wars was heavily inspired by American politics. It was basically the Vietnam war in space.

These concepts have played out in many different civilizations long before (and during) America. This is why studying history is important--and also why dictators try to erase it.

If it's not in the records it doesn't exist.

Extra funny if you knew of the people who were "playing" Eve Online psychopaths, who had and still have the tendency of toying with the mental gymnastics of portraying the Sith as the good guys and the Jedi as the bad guys and decided over a decade now to get involved in propping up the Trump movement.

No joke! Even what I didn't like with the Sequels was they felt too contemporary and on the nose to Trumpian MAGA politics.
