As long as Canada is a federal state as now constituted, Ottawa lacks the jurisdiction to impose inter-provincial free trade.

And while Trump makes demands, Musk will destroy all government systems so that it ceases to function.

Canada will figure something out. Let this be a lesson to all nations who still have a democracy.

Are you sure Canada will figure it out? If anything we have just learned that when Trump says jump our politicians say 'how high.' Immediately rolling back Canada's response without securing a loud and public promise not to fuck with us again does not show a lot of independence.

Canada didn't concede anything.

We committed to keeping agreements we had already made with Biden, and we agreed to give someone an honourary title of fentanyl tzar. That's it.

If Trump wants something real, I hope our leaders will fight back, but for now, there's not much we can or should do. We'll see how it goes in a month when the tariffs unpause.

Ottawa also lacks the authority to impose cheap daycare and zoning improvements for cities. But they offered incentives, and the jurisdictions fell into line.
