People post shit like this as if they're being forced to eat fast food. Make your own fucking food if you're worried about the price. It's been like that forever.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 minutes ago

Honestly though, Five Guys is one of the few fast food restaurants that I think the price warrants what you get. Like yeah it's 22 bucks for Fry's a burger and a shake but man is worth it you get so many fries in the burgers amazing, and the shake isn't that bad either

[–] UncleGrandPa 4 points 1 hour ago

the cost of lunch at a fast food place is almost the same as a sit down restaurant. although you will have to tip.

but no standing in line, fewer loud customers, less stress, better food quality and the ability to customize dishes. plus you can actually have a conversation without yelling over everyone else.

the problem with cheep fast food is it is no longer cheep and just fast...ish. but every other aspect has become substandard crap.

Went there once and never went back. I can't enjoy my food knowing it was so expensive for fast food. You can get a steak dinner at Texas Roadhouse instead.

[–] AynRandLibertarian 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I never visited America. Could you describe in vivid detail to me what is the Texas Roadhouse experience like?

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds 3 points 23 minutes ago

It's loud. There are peanuts everywhere. Your table is sticky. Corporate country music is playing at a ludicrous volume and everywhere you turn is a TV playing ESPN.

You pay $40 for a so-so steak.

[–] B312 13 points 9 hours ago

I used to think that Five Guys in my country had awful prices because of some weird franchising agreement. Seems I’m wrong

[–] Ougie 8 points 9 hours ago

$78 would only feed 2 people

[–] Geldaran 25 points 14 hours ago

The Wendy's, McDonalds, and Hardees In my town are all closed or closing soon. They've priced their garbage quality food right out of what the people that would go there can afford. Good riddance. My only sympathy is for the folks losing a job, but working Fast food suuuuucks. I hope those folks find something better.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It wasn't bad when it was a 5 dollar burger.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 hours ago

Now it's not even $5 fries

[–] [email protected] 13 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Go to McDonald's if you want to spend $60 for shit. At least 5 Guys is still good

[–] BeMoreCareful 8 points 10 hours ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 hours ago

Compared to chains? I'd say it's generally quite good

[–] [email protected] 14 points 16 hours ago

It's not bad food, but it's definitely not worth the money.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

It's also not very good. I don't get why some people rave about it. Local places are usually much, much better.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool 10 points 17 hours ago

Meanwhile i grabbed potato buns and beef and made myself a bunch of smash burgers that would put five guys to shame. Only cost like $10

[–] [email protected] 93 points 1 day ago

Wanna know why it's called Five Guys?

Because it takes the salary of five people to pay for one meal.

[–] [email protected] 59 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There’s a Five Guys in my city and whenever I’m reminded of it, I always wonder why I’ve never tried it before. Then I remember I always walk past it after seeing the prices on the menu.

[–] Frozengyro 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It is good, but not worth the money. They were reasonable back when they first opened in my area. Then it went about 2x the price in a year. And kept going up.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 minute ago* (last edited 30 seconds ago)

That's disappointing, in my area fast food didn't really start skyrocketing in price until about 2019. But since then oh my God it is only gone up. My $12 meal without rewards has turned into a $19 meal with rewards which is ridiculous to me

I haven't gone to a fast food joint myself unless the family is also going since then cuz it's not worth it

[–] SupraMario 19 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Yep, when they had one near my office like 15 years ago, it was almost the same as McDonald's and it was great...then prices have basically quadrupled and they're not worth it at all anymore.

[–] Frozengyro 9 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I suspect they keep the prices low the first year or so to establish a customer base and then start raising them.

[–] Woht24 8 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Interesting and very unfortunate. I loved Five Guys when I first visited the US and they opened one up in Australia and the prices are so high it's insulting and I've never been.

Sad to hear it's the same in the US now.

[–] Frozengyro 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Yea this was maybe 17 years ago. I used to get it regularly, but I haven't had it in at least 10 years from the outrageous prices.

[–] SupraMario 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yea I think I'm pushing 10 years as well now. It's good food...but it's still fast food burgers for premium restaurant cost. It's no longer worth it, hell my local burger places which are actual restaurants with waiters are usually cheaper by $10 or more for the wife and I and that's with a 25% tip. How 5 guys is still open amazes me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 minutes ago

Yeah, this I can understand. Like Applebee's does the 2 for 26 deal where you can get two burgers an appetizer and fries for about 28 bucks, granted they're going to nickel and dime you if you want anything other than a standard Burger which is unlike Five Guys but you do get a little more food even if the burger isn't as good.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 day ago

Guess you only got a family of 3.

[–] TomMasz 25 points 1 day ago (3 children)

But they give you so many fries!

[–] Bonesince1997 4 points 17 hours ago

Should be called Fries Guys

[–] Cyth 20 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It varies by location. The one near my house can hardly be bothered to fill the cup. One like an hour away I used to go to for work fills half the freaking bag.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

Putting fries in paper cups is a stupid idea to begin with.

[–] pikmeir 12 points 1 day ago

Not at any of the ones I've been to :( It's more than McDonald's but it's never been a problem to finish them.

[–] timewarp 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Wendy's $5 or $6 meal deals... you get a double stack, nuggies, fries & a drink, and a frosty with each purchase for a year if you get their key tag.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 hours ago

At least it's cheap.

[–] Xanthrax 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Key tag?

Edit: oh, it's a 3 dollar keychain.

Their hotdogs are almost the same price.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (10 children)

I’m so glad I stopped eating fast food about 15 years ago when I knew it was terrible for me and made me feel like crap afterward. Watching everyone freak out about their exorbitant prices today just makes me feel very satisfied in my decision.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver 8 points 1 day ago

Same here. I stopped eating meat back in the mid 00's too, so there's rarely any reason for me to want fast food anyway.
