Summary

Donald Trump has scaled back his second inauguration plans, moving the ceremony indoors to the Capitol Rotunda due to bitterly cold weather and lower-than-expected hotel occupancy rates in Washington, D.C.

Attendance for second-term inaugurations typically declines, with hotel occupancy at 74% compared to higher rates in 2017.

Was the Four Seasons booked?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 weeks ago

I half expected it to be in a McDonalds, or a Tesla showroom.

I wish they'd book Four Seasons Landscaping again. That was hilarious, a good indicator of the chaos and incompetence which followed.

Closed for the winter and no one would plow the snow out of the parking lot.

That's the problem with surrounding yourself with billionnaire sycophants: there's only so many billionnaires to create a crowd. But it's much easier to make it look like a bigger crowd in an enclosed space.

It's too bad the weather provides a genuine excuse to move the proceedings indoors, because even if it was 70 degrees, he'd still do it and then it would be obvious why.

People are posting pictures of Kennedy's inauguration, where it was 22F and he wore just a regular suit with no coat.

Kennedy was a lot younger at his inauguration (43) than Trump is now (78).

And only Roosevelt was younger at 42. In comparison, Obama was 47, Bush 54, Clinton 46 and Carter 52.

The "old fart" trend was started by Trump, who was already the oldest president at the start of his term last time. Then Biden was the oldest and now it's Trump again.

Diapers insulate well though.

Not wet ones

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah and also, the King of Kauai will be in attendance this time. Hawaiians aren't used to the cold, and Trump wouldn't want to jeopardize the health of one of his megarich buddies.

[–] MothmanDelorian 6 points 3 weeks ago

He wasn't a doddering old man. He was almost half Trump's age.

Sooooo… what will they do with the $200 million dollars?

"Charity", he said with a total poker face

What $200 million? I didn't see any $200 million, did you, Don Jr.? Nope? No, no $200 million here.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 weeks ago

I didn’t see any $200 million, did you, Don Jr?

If Don Jr. ever gets close to those $200m, somebody in Colombia will be doing good business soon.

[–] lemmylommy 2 points 3 weeks ago

I have no idea where those $190 million you are talking about could be.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

Same thing they did with the money from the last inaugural fund, steal it and never receive any consequences.

[–] dhork 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They're all gratuities for a job well done, so he gets to keep it all.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Tips if you will. Which will not pay taxes soon.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 3 weeks ago

The "biggest" crowds like nobody's ever seen before. I hope his dad is waiting in hell to say what a disappointment Donny-boy is.

[–] KY13KR385 17 points 3 weeks ago

Hell really did freeze over if it’s gonna be too cold out there for his little hands.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Interesting that in his concern for who might get hurt, he lists police dogs and "even horses" before civilians.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

he lists police dogs

Not quite: the article says "police K9s". Because as we all know, stupid acronyms are much more sensitive to cold than regular words.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

LOL.

Dude finally has billionaires kissing his ring, and plenty of money to hire people to stand around, and the weather fucks him.

I love it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

It'll be the biggest crowd ever all crammed in that confined space. Not even Obama had crowds as big as this one!

[–] CharlesDarwin 7 points 3 weeks ago

What kind of dickhead would willingly attend this anyway?

[–] MothmanDelorian 4 points 3 weeks ago

Isn't choosing 2017 a bit disingenuous as the average American isn't doing as well financially as we were before we elected Trump the first time?
