Also, the lights on the chair look like accent marks, so from now on I'm pronouncing it "Còmmánder"

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.
~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.
~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.
~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.
~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.
~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.
~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'
~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.
Fun will now commence.

Ensign Ro, always trying to get under Riker's skin. Or under his uniform, like that time they lost their identities.
Edit: reading "Còmmánder" with a cheesy exaggerated Russian accent
I enjoy the meme here but I do hate that brand of asshole/jackass humor: like are people supposed to be constantly walking around living in fear of an attack even from their "friends"?
Yeah, I don't have those kind of friends. Just used to seeing the behavior in other groups and media. Shit talking, I'm good with, but I wouldn't want to have to be vigilant about such unnecessary pain.
Yeah I hope I expressed that right - and I figured that you of all (friendly) people would offer the benefit of the doubt if not:-) - in that as a hypothetical meta-concept where it happens out in the culture and hence we can ~~make fun of~~ talk about it here:-), but as a thing that people actually do it's so toxic. Then again, much of it is probably hype in the first place?
There are some at my job that exhibit this behavior. They can be decent people at times, but mongrels for perpetuating that nonsense. Maybe they'll grow out of it.
And that's the thing: it may have started out exaggerated (I dunno), but then being shown on TV and YouTube etc., grown to become more common as a result?
Too bad you can't wear like taser underpants and shock them each time it happens:-).
It's (not) a metaphor!
And if that doesn't work, then perhaps another means could be devised, with the right source of... "help".
In The Good Place series the guys who do this are in The Bad Place.
Can't speak for everyone obviously so this is purely anecdotal, but the Venn diagram of those who are cool with it and do it; and those who aren't cool with it so don't do it, are largely two separate circles.
I personally think that if you think it's funny and you're prepared to take it as well as dish it out, there's no harm in it. If you're daft enough to find it entertaining then go wild, it's your life and your own choices.
From my schoolyard days though, slapping someone in the balls or giving someone a dead leg or towel-whipping someone or the dreaded "nipple-cripple" (excuse the ableist term) on someone who wasn't a willing participant of the game was a dick move (no pun intended) and massively frowned upon.
Consent is all that matters!
That he had to live through losing her twice is the real heartbreaker.
I didn't experience this until i was an adult and it was a true What The Fuck moment. It's absolutely sexual assault. The guy did it a second time and i realized the only socially acceptable way to get him to stop was to do it back to him but with a really really strong punch. That worked, but i didn't want to touch his dick any more than i wanted him to touch mine, so i shouldn't have had to do that just to protect myself from an unwanted physical attack on my genitals
Yeah it's kinda toxic AF - unless you agree in advance I suppose.
The best defense is a good offense
When this "prank" became a thing in school I made sure my friends knew anyone who tried this on me was catching a beating, I'm all for comedy but if you hit a guy in the nuts, it's on you if you get the shit kicked out of you.
I guess Data doesn't have to worry about that though, "It's just a prank, 'bro'."
I guess Data doesn’t have to worry about that though
Data is fully functional. I assume Often Wrong would add in ball tap functionality.
Oh, no I mean that he could beat everyone up so he wouldn't have to worry about getting his ass kicked. He has nuts, but no pain, so he has an unfair advantage there too.
Fair enough.
Reminds me of the scene in Generations where Riker dunked Worf in the water, data joined in the fun by dunking Crusher, and everyone responded like that was totally out of pocket.
Doesn’t make sense to me either, Data.
Most shenanigans require context and time the likes of which Data was not privy. Conjure up all the cultural instances you like, but until thoroughly explained and put into practice, Data will continue to be the proverbial "Pinocchio" wishing to belong.
Not condoning this meme's particular activities, mind you. Data's perspective was at least partially set up for us "social renegades" to have an analogous view to glom on to. Essentially, it's more important that we set our own boundaries and rules for what we deem acceptable.
That’s all very true, but it doesn’t stop me from feeling like Data would have a better time learning about humour from any other crew. Another great instance is his conversation with Guinan during the series, when she tries to explain jokes to him with “you’re a droid and I’m a noid”. I wasn’t laughing, either, and I don’t believe it’s because I have an odd sense of humour.
Then she gives up and sends him to the holodeck to learn from a computer generated stand up comic. Which is like telling ChatGPT to learn psychotherapeutic techniques from Eliza.
The poor man never stood a chance.
Joe Piscopo is no one's idea of a source of humor.
It's a good thing Data only did this to Riker. Anyone else would have lost their testicles. Riker's are thankfully made of brass and steel.
"Commander, I've just relocated the ruins of a lost 20th century city."
"Oh, what is it?"
"Bangkok"
"What's the capital of Thailand?"
Later that day: arc-weld tap
I swear with this crew. Mark my words, someone is going to end up fused to a bulkhead.
I wonder how many steps down this is in his prank subroutine from calling Geordi a lunkhead.
