where you can change pronouns of your main character
As if choosing your player character's gender hasn't been a common thing in video games for decades
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Dark Souls 2 has a mechanic to swap your character's gender whenever you want to. From is already okay with genderfluid protagonists.
You have to fight a bunch of ogres about it though, so business as usual.
There was an outrage about that either back when Dark Souls 2 came out, or when they added that to the game - I vaguely remember there not being anything worth note just after the game came out. Either way, "some people" freaked out about it, and the controversy got some wind in the sails due to the gamergate culture war being a thing back then.
"Terminally online"
Now look, half of Lemmy is terminally online, those people you talk about are simply racists.
Fair point :)
Probably more than half, let's be honest here!
Any time sometime terrible happens, the worse people will try and claim it as a victory. Sony buying From Software is terrible, but not because of some imagined spector called DEI.
Black people and homosexuals? Omg, can you imagine trying to play a game when the NPCs have a different race or sexuality than you do? It must be impossible.
Do I need the /s?
I don't want no gay darkies in my fantasy game where I fight wizard fish people and British jars /s
At least there won't be any black homosexuals.
Not even hiding the racism and homophobia.
The very idea of having a choice feels threatening to their tiny minds. Like, just choose to be a white cis man if it’s really all that important to you.
Not to mention everybody will have pronouns now! Previously we were just referring to the individuals by the individuals' names, of course.
Why would they? Actors, politicians, etc openly show hate and there're no meaningful consequences. It's accepted now...
guess it's time to be as aggressively anti-bigot when they are being aggressively racist/homophobic 🤷🏻
What if from software makes a character that's biologically male, but gets raised as a woman because of his moon powers? That would be so woke.
That'd be dope Sailor Moon fan fiction.
That's the Sailor Stars arc.
Elden Ring already has gender fluidity, a strong female POC, people with physical and mental disabilities, and homosexual implications. "Wokeness" should be the least of their concerns about what Sony could do to From.
Elden ring already has body A body B customization. These chodes have never played elden ring and may be Russian.
I'm sure everyone will have pronouns as well
Like they don't already?
God when did racism, homophobia, and misogyny become the new opinions you can hold instead of developing an identity.
It was obnoxious enough with pineapple pizza hate and clown fear.

Honestly? Maybe sometime around mid-late 2015 after Donald announced his first run for president.
The moment he was taken seriously, it emboldened all the chuds.
Upon further thought, I believe that year also marked the start of what led to Brexit as the UK Conservative Party won a majority. Not a great year.
I'm more concerned with having to get a Sony PSN account to play my steam game.
And the possibility of it turning into a Playstation exclusive once again. Or at the very least a game developed for Playstation with a terrible PC port.
Yep, the main thing I worry about. But the parent company that the Sony is considering buying owns only like 65% of From Software. So maybe from software will have some leeway and they can put their foot down and say they don't want to use PSN. Maybe? Hopefully? Otherwise, elden ring will be the last game that I bought from them.
And having to wait a year and a half.
Or longer, if they decide to go the bloodborne route.
Can't wait to play a woke game ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ) but Fuck Sony. Sony should be last option ( ; ω ; ).
when a black woman becomes the next sekiro
..... Sounds cool?
non white people? in my Asian-themed fantasy game?
Right? If I want historical accuracy I'll watch a documentary
Only reason I wouldn't play it is because I still suck at the first one. (I have to give it another try though, then I would totally play a second one)
Don't go to YouTube comments. Tis a silly place.
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy
The jerk store called and they're out of YouTube comments

What's Nextdoor?
It's original intention was to create hyper local groups of neighbors to help each other and support local businesses etc. It turned into Karens complaining about everything, full of people who don't know how to use Google, and the worst users of Facebook, Craigslist and Yelp rolled into one.
I’ve seen it be a good community spot, but only in rural areas.

My games only include women and non-binary characters
Sony are actually the people who dictate that Spiderman remain straight and white though. It's in all of his license agreements. Doesn't have sex under the age of 16, doesn't have sex with anyone under the age of 16, is white, is hetero, doesn't swear over pg-13, symbiote is not peters design, lived/raised in queens, gains powers during high school, and a bunch of other things.
So how did they reconcile Miles Morales?
Wiki says he's an "Alternate Spiderman". Alter Egos have an exception from what I understand. He's from another universe according to Marvel. He's not Peter Parker. It's specifically Peter Parker who must be all these things.
That's interesting. Have they been told by Marvel to make it that way or do Sony hold rights over Spider-Man to an extent where they can dictate his appearances on screen? I remember hearing that Sony kinda owns Spider-Man for the movies or something? Not sure
Honestly, I'm not sure - not a fan, just a dude who picks up on random tidbits of information.
