  • Video-only link.
  • No transcript, synopsis, or even point of view in the post.
  • Provocative click-bait title.

No thanks. I come to discussion forums for discussion and legitimate news, not to spend my time slogging through some influencer's video to bolster their view count.

When they don't respect my time enough to at least outline their key points in text, and there's no obvious reason why the content must be video, I find that it's vanishingly unlikely that they have anything interesting to say.

Yeah I thought the whole point of it being off youtube and on a non-income based platform meant they didn't have to use such scummy tactics like clickbait

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

This channel is mirrored from youtube one to one. Better than being youtube only, but its influences remain the same.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

There's a transcript in the description and this is on tilvids, a FOSS fediverse platform which does not financially benefit the uploader

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

An off-site transcript is no substitute for posting something of value in this forum. Lack of direct financial benefit from clicks makes no difference to any of the points I raised. (But as an aside, since you brought it up, "SUPPORT THE CHANNEL"!)

This video is a mirror of the YT channel. It is clickbait. On YT not only it works, it is mandatory. The Linux Experiment is that kind of channel, where the host has some interesting things to say once in a while, but is a poor communicator. He still thinks he has to abuse superlatives and be radically sensationalist just to get eyes on the video and earn an audience. I have watched a couple of videos of him but it was tiring hearing him speak idiocy upfront then try to add nuance to said idiocy. It is annoying and the worst kind of content.

This person(?) does seem to like filling my front page with blind links :-\ I don't really like blocking people(?) here but ugh, I'm not gonna go check a dozen pages a day just to find out what they are. ... Actually this one seems to have taken over posting a link to every post from a particular news site after I blocked the last one. Dunno why any community needs that, the site itself surely has them all better presented.

Whatever, let's see if another one pops up 🤷

[–] adam_y 75 points 2 months ago

Dunno, seems pretty good to me.

It's really just games with kernel level anticheat that are a problem.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This is such a shit take its almost still steaming hot.

Like what the fuck, just because asshead AAA and AAAA publishers brick their games on purpose (they work worse on winass as well) thats not a Linux thing. We need to shame the assheads responsible not shittalk Linux.

[–] hellofriend 7 points 2 months ago

This guy repeatedly has shit takes. Furthermore, literally all his vod titles are clickbait. I just tune him out now.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

We need to shame the assheads responsible not shittalk Linux.

This battle starts with your wallets folks. Deny the petite profits.

I've been daily driving Linux for a few years. I've had exactly one (1) game that wouldn't run because of anti-cheat, and dozens that run great. And the Steam deck gaining popularity is only making things better and easier.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Been gaming on Linux for over a decade, definitely some stuff is a bit h but it's surprising how much works flawlessly. Bought a steam deck a month ago and I'm very impressed with the polish and compatibility. I'll be happy to see it keep selling. It's a nice piece of hardware.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 months ago

What? I've never seen it better. I just played Veilguard all the way through without any issues on Linux

[–] warmaster 16 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Not being able to play the world's most popular games, means most gamers aren't ready for Linux yet.

  • FC25
  • GTA V
  • LOL
  • Fortnite

And more.

I hate those games, but my kids want to play FC25, and for that... I still have a dreaded Windows PC.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I too would like to know this.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's not even an acronym, it's a sportsball game by EA.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Soooooooo what's the "FC" mean? Do you know?

[–] hellofriend 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Football Club. EA can't use FIFA anymore.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Thanks. That's interesting. How come they can't use FIFA anymore?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The theory was FIFA wanted some batshit amount of money for the franchise which EA decided not to cough up.
This hasn't been confirmed as far as I know, but either way it's greedcorp vs greedcorp.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

If that's true, then, well... Dumbasses... Never make an ultimatum unless you can't handle it being rejected. That's like the oldest rule in negotiation. I know that, and I'm a social dumbass. Those fuckers have no excuse.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why don't force your kids to play actual games like open TTD?

[–] warmaster 3 points 2 months ago

Further context for anyone interested.

FC25 is the world's most popular Football (soccer) game, made by the world's shittiest gaming company, EA.

Open TTD is an open source transport tycoon sim.

[–] phoneymouse 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I play GTA V on my steam deck

[–] warmaster 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] phoneymouse 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, I haven’t tried, but looked it up and see it doesn’t work.

[–] warmaster 1 points 2 months ago

That's the point. Online play on linux is limited.

[–] theunknownmuncher 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The current state of gaming is that many games perform better on linux than on windows. What planet is this guy on?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Planet Microsoft.

[–] BradleyUffner 15 points 2 months ago

More and more games are compatible every week, so um... no?

[–] passiveaggressivesonar 12 points 2 months ago

I got games that run better on proton than windows

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce 9 points 2 months ago

It plays everything I need it to.

Kernel level anticheat is garbage that shouldn't be on anyone's system anyway.

[–] A_Random_Idiot 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Y'all realize that you are doing exactly what these creators want, right?

They create stupid/outlandish shit, because they know people, like everyone posting here, will spread the video to the 4 corners in indignant outrage, and give the creator more spread and exposure than they would have ever gotten on youtube alone due to algorithm.

And if you don't do that, you'll make tons of comments on the video/youtube channel, massively spiking their engagement and skewing the algorithm in their favor

[–] Breadhax0r 9 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'm at work so I can't really watch a video about this...but I don't think I've had a problem running any recent game at all. The only one that comes to mind was the beta for monster hunter wilds, and I think that was sort of it's own thing because the game was a mess for windows users too.

Also the new Derail Valley update is awesome and they're working with valve to make it work even better on the steam deck.

[–] TheDemonBuer 9 points 2 months ago

It works perfectly for me, but I don't play online games. I hope they can get those games running in Linux so those folks can switch over.

[–] daggermoon 8 points 2 months ago

I have problems getting really old games to run. Especially Windows 95/98 games. I don't care much for online slop. Most games I want to play work.

[–] GustavoM 7 points 2 months ago

"Oh, look! One(1) game has been busted by the devs themselves and because of that, Linux gaming is dead as ever!"

lmao what

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Indie games and single player games and multiplayer games with devs enabling support still supported.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i play mostly Roblox and sober cane so not for me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Don't count sober as roblox windows build running on wine. Count it as a android emulator using roblox apk which tweaks and patches.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Nah just saying that sober is just a android emulator
