A federal judge in Missouri put a temporary hold on President Joe Biden’s latest student loan cancellation plan on Thursday, slamming the door on hope it would move forward after another judge allowed a pause to expire.

Just as it briefly appeared the Biden administration would have a window to push its plan forward, U.S. District Judge Matthew Schelp in Missouri granted an injunction blocking any widespread cancellation.

Six Republican-led states requested the injunction hours earlier, after a federal judge in Georgia decided not to extend a separate order blocking the plan.

The states, led by Missouri’s attorney general, asked Schelp to act fast, saying the Education Department could “unlawfully mass cancel up to hundreds of billions of dollars in student loans as soon as Monday.” Schelp called it an easy decision.

I’ll remember this on Election Day and I hope others do too. Fucking Republican scum.

When's that again? I misplaced my notice.

It's a dream. The American people are asleep and will probably die that way.

But, oh, think of all the credit card points we shall amass leading up to our demise!

Remember when judges said we couldn't keep giving "free money" to all these corporations over and over? Yeah me neither. Why is it that we always have to fight helping our own people but will walk through broken glass, nails, lava, etc., to help billion dollar companies and other countries?

Trump brought this up in the debate as something Biden/Harris couldn't get done. I was bothered by the fact that it's republicans and Trump judges holding it up. Like, Fuck you Trump.

Fucks! My wife has two payments left for her public service loan forgiveness and she can't even make a payment while this shit is happening, because PSLF people are lumped in with this also.

Apparently you're going to be able to buy back months when all of this is over. That made me okay with this forbearance...as long as they don't screw that up, too!

[–] kmartburrito 8 points 1 month ago

One challenge, however, is that the forgiveness is going to be taxable next year and my wife who is a teacher, will have a significant amount forgiven that is two payments away that can't be bought back before that point. Others like us will still be impacted this way, which sucks.

She requested to be in the buy back program but they take ages to reply so we're at the mercy of this and time.

Republicans are assholes, don't be like Republicans.

Just fucking do it and fuck the courts. The number of activist judges wanting to make a name for themselves is insane.

Why can't we just not give out the cancelations in those states. Seems like a quick way for them to backstep and stop blocking this.

Red states are against socialism and socialized medicine, we should cancel Medicare in those states too, don't want to force them to touch any of that nasty socialism.
