A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

Every phone call you make with just the mic near your mouth and the speaker near your ear, you are whispering into the ear of the person you are calling.

If the person who answers with the mic near their mouth and the speaker near their ear is doing the same thing. It's like having a conversational 69 where both of you are placing your mouths next to each other's ears.

It sounds sexual and sensual if you are talking to someone you might be interested in ... but it gets a bit awkward if you imagine doing this with a random stranger you would never usually want to get close to.

A perfect example of a shower thought. Thanks for thinking it.

On a semi related note: what the hell is the deal with people that walk around in public on speaker phone, with the phone held 2 inches from their head? What's the point? I just saw someone doing it the other day and having a pretty awkward conversation that I would want other people to listen to.

Depends on the phone, but some of them, the audio is horrible through the regular speaker for calls, but better via the bigger one. Just not necessarily enough better for everyone.

Mind you, most of the people that do that are just twits, but hard of hearing people might need to use the phone that way to be able to communicate effectively, regardless of phone quality.

I'm the kind of person who takes phone calls on speaker almost exclusively (unless I have headphones), but never in public what the actual fuck. I hate those people too.

I think they see it on tv shows or social media influencers, where it allows both sides of a conversation to be heard by the audience. And if TV or Kim Kardashian does it, it must be cool, right?

Like they're eating a pizza or they're some reality TV episode?

It's because they're stupid. Just stupid.

Engineers and designers spend their days optimising the mic and speakers for people holding the phone LIKE A PHONE and these halfwits hold it like a slice of pizza, shouting over the loudspeaker that we all can hear but they can't because they're shouting.

Like an idiot.

Gotta keep those waves away from their delicate grey matter.

That or their phone has shitty palm detection and will unwittingly treat their face as a touch if they hold it too close.

They are in the same group of people that insist on playing music on their tinny device or little boom box while walking down the street.

phone rings

Decline it

Text the caller

"Stop trying to 69 my ear with your mouth."

Phone rings

decide to answer call

muffled noises .... ????? ...

can't hear the caller because they put saran wrap over their phone as they tried to provide a safe 69 phone conversation

topologically, though, isn't that just the same as all speaking and listening? it's all mouth to ear.

if anything, force-fitting 69 seems unduly contrived. like if you shake someone by the hand, the top of your palm 69's the bottom of theirs. or if you give them a high-five, it's the forefinger and pinky.

or if you respond to this comment, we'll be 69ing each other's eyes with our fingers.

True ... if we were standing together in the same room and having a conversation, it would just be a normal chat where we would both be standing about arms length away from each other.

But I thought the idea of a phone conversation was weird a few days ago. You speak into a mic that is very close to your mouth and your voice is transmitted to a speaker that is pressed up against the ear of the listener ... and they are doing the same from their perspective.

It would be like if we were both in the same room again and having a conversation .. except this time, we decide to lie on the floor ... where I would be upside down from you and you the same to me .. and you position your head really close to mine and I speak really close into your ear and you do the same with mine ... we have this conversation so intimately that our cheeks touch the entire time.

I wish I could go back in time and break your hands so you'd never had written that.

Showering is very difficult with broken hands.

A phone call isn't sexual by definition. You're talking to each other's ears, not tonguing them 😂

Shrews were tamed like this.

Yes a call or a even a regular talk with someone in the normal sense is not sexual at all

But if you both lay on the floor with your heads next to one another in an upside position from one another ... where you placed your mouth very close to your listener's ear and they did the same to you ... and both of you are so close that your cheeks touch one another as you talked ... you might not be tonguing their ear but you are close and intimate enough that it does become something else and may even start becoming something close to being sexual or sensual.

It was just a silly thought and image that came to me the other day while talking on the phone .... we're basically whispering into each other's ears when we use a phone in the traditional sense.
